Another Zebra Light H50~Q5 issues

Today i just received my H50-Q5 ( twisty version ), directly purchased it from Zebralight. After done several testing i found strange behaviors from this headlamp.

1.) The output

I compared output between Eneloop and AW 14500 protected. In my eyes the eneloop output is brighter than the AW 14500 battery. Is this common ??

2.) The battery

I have 2 pieces AW 14500 protected battery. I inserted 1st battery inside H50 it works. But the 2nd battery inserted it wont work. I tried to put the 2nd battery inside nitecore D10 and it works.


Any body here with zebra light H50-Q5 have the same issue's on this headlamp ???

1) People reported similar behavior with H501 (lower brighntess but longer runtime with 14500). So it looks like a feature

2) Maybe one of your 14500 is too long and it is preventing the tailcap to screw fully down and make electrical contact with the body.

My H501 is brighter on NiMH than 14500, it's normal.

Check on the 14500 that the positive terminal is protruding above the top of the battery enough, and also that it's not too long. You can test for it being too long by removing the tailcap and making the connection with a piece of aluminium foil. My Trustfire 14500 cells are too long for my H501.

It's bit make me disappointed knowing the Nimh brighter than the 14500. Last time i stuck between H30 and H50, from what i know the H30 offer brighter output than H50 but for H30 fuel it wouldn't easy to find CR123 in every store. So i decide to grab H50 since i could find AA's in most convenient store in my town. I think i will solve the problem by purchasing H50 + couple protected 14500's, but actually it won't :sigh:

My 14500 is 14500 with protruding top ( usually i called it 14500 with nipple or nippled 14500 ). I have flat top protected 14500 with blue wrapping but it can't fit the H50 nicely, seems the diameter bigger than the standard alkaline.

Perhaps the brighter operation with NiMH cells is an advantage, if the total watt-hours are greater. I'm not sure how your 14500 LiIon cells compare in capacity with a good quality AA NiMH. Either way, your H50 should be a good choice for many close lighting chores.

Ussually the my 14500 is less on run time compared to Nimh but the 14500 offer more output than the Nimh.

Either way, your H50 should be a good choice for many close lighting chores.

Yes it is, IMHO it very perfect illumination tool for close range task so far. Yesterday i checked my car engine using H50 and i feel it's work perferct !!
