Can't help you sorry, went straight for the 12v lamp option ;)

BTW lower rated Vf lamps consume more energy to create luminescence than the same wattage bulb with a higher Vf, unfortunately this eats into your battery runtime :(

FWIW, KD has similar bi-pin bulbs rated at 12v and a variety of different wattages. I'm interested in the 6v bulbs for overdriving from a pair of 18650s in a 2C host. Basically I'm building a sort of Magcharger Jr. The plan is to run the magcharger bulb normally but the 5w bulb from KD looks like it might make a good low output bulb for times when runtime is the primary concern. OTOH, the 20w bulb could possibly be a low cost substitute for the WA1111 for when a lot of light is necessary and runtime isn't an issue.:) Of course this is all speculation. They could go :poof: or they could even be some sort of long life bulb that isn't very bright even with the overdrive. I'll order a couple tonight and report back when I get a chance to test them.

I picked up a couple of the 15 watt ones the other day just for chits & giggles. Haven't come in yet tho, but will post some findings....I'm thinking the 15 could be an in between rop hi and rop lo. we will have to see. There just isn't a true substitute for some good ol' WA's or osrams.

I'm interested to see what you think of them. I'm going to order 1ea of the 5w and 20w later this evening.

I ordered http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=8981 from Kaidomain back on August 14th. It was a G4 Philips 6v 10w for $4.89. When I get this order I will post my results. Tony some of those bulb links you listed are described as G4 bi-pins but one of the customers posted a comment that he received a 5W LED in its place. I am curious to hear about your order when you get it. For what it is worth I am ordered many things from Kaidomain and have had pretty good results.

Happy Mods!

I'll report back when the order comes in. Along those lines, what kind of shipping times do you usually see from KD? As for the review about the 5w LED, it was so vague that I'm not going to read too much into it. Also, it appears you don't even have to purchase an item to write a review. I just logged into my KD account and clicked the link to write a review and it took me right to the form even though I haven't ordered the bulb yet.
My guess is that somebody ran across that bulb, saw 5w, immediately assumed it was an LED, and wrote an inaccurate review without ever having ordered one. I could be wrong but for $1.46 I'm willing to take the risk. :)

Thanks,
Tony

I think it will take about 3 weeks these days to get something from KD. I will let you know when I get my recent shipment. I would agree with the risk being worth it for only $1.46. Heck a 5w LED might be worth more than $1.46 anyway.

Thanks! I've got an earlier order from KD coming as well as one from DX, cases4less, and dorcy direct. It'll be like Christmas around here over the next few weeks.:D

Actually that's another reason I believe it really is an incan bulb. I did some searching and all the 5w LEDs I could find on KD start at $5 and up.:)

Ok I received my order today so it took about 26 days. I tested it driven by a 2xA123 battery pack and a 6xAA Eneloop pack.

Results:

6.61 Volts @ 1.801 Amps measured from tail cap. Maybe high end of 200 lumens.

8.09 Volts @ 1.970 Amps measured from tail cap. Maybe 400+ lumens.

Bulb came in a Philips FocusLine carton and marked type 7387. I will go out on a limb and say this is simular if not the same as an unpotted HPR71

Interesting! Sounds pretty similar to the results I'm getting out of an overdriven magcharger bulb (pulls 1.79a initially). Price is better by a couple dollars on the Phillips bulb though. May have to pick a couple up for spares.:)

Oh, did you notice that DX sells the Phillips Focusline 7388? Looks like the 20w big brother to the 7387. If the no-name bulbs from KD don't work out, I may grab a 7388 and 7387 for a HO/LO set.:twothumbs
I really do hope the KD 5w bulb works out though as it would be perfect for a long runtime situation like a power failure.

I have some measurements of the first two in the file you can locaote in my sig...

So they didn't flash on 7.2v? That's good news. I noticed the amp draw was missing for those bulbs. I'm curious to see what that will be so I can estimate run times but I can check when they get here. If they ever get here... Tom Petty had it right when he sang "the waiting is the hardest part".:)

Thanks,

Tony

EDIT: Since you've seen those bulbs in person, are the pins the same size as the Welch Allyn bulbs? I hope they are as I don't want to run the risk of spreading the pin holders so that the Magcharger/WA bulbs will no longer fit.

no, not with Ni-Mh..I did not try them with Li-Ions though...

I will update the chart today and I will see my notes if i have the draw measurements somewhere..

mine didn't fit in the FM bipin adapter. the pins on the lamp were thicker so I will have to file them down to make them work, didn't have that much energy yesterday.

Well, the bulbs arrived today with mixed results. Both the 5w and the 20w fit the socket, but the pins are too big on the 15w and I didn't want to force it. The 20w powered up nice and bright and didn't flash on 2 partially discharged black label trustfires. The 5w bulb did some weird stuff though. It didn't flash but it did coat the inside of the glass with a grey and white deposit. As of writing this, it's still making a sickly yellow light, but who knows how long it'll last. Also, none of these bulbs will pass through the opening in a KD reflector with the 8.3mm hole without enlarging it. The round part of the bulb fits fine but the flat part where the pins come through is a little too wide. I'll have more later on amp draw and an opinion of output but I need to take care of a mix-up in my order first. For some reason, KD issued me a refund on the reflector even though I didn't request it. I want to make sure I've got that sorted out before I modify the reflector for the bulbs to fit.
