Any speculation on putting an SSC P7 in a U2?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm way excited about the UA2 and UB2, and you can bet I'll be getting one of each when they become available. However, there are some things about my U2 that I am sorry to give up. Namely, the smaller size, weight, and absence of SOS and strobe modes. If the U2 could be modded with a SSC P7, then I would be one happy camper. Anybody have any idea if this might be possible?

The P7s might not be available to the general public for a while, and we won't know how well it really works until the modders get their hands on them. It sounds like a great emitter, and I can't wait to see what the other companies will do with it.

The SSC P7 is a four-die LED like the Lux V, but the dies are connected in parallel, while the Lux V is a 2-series-2 parallel configuration.
This means the SSC P7 has a Vf of 3.4 V, while the LuxV has a Vf of 6.8 V, thus they are not directly swappable. Also, the SSC P7 has a bigger case compared to the Lux V.

Of all SF LED lights, the U2 remain the one virtually un-moddable, unless you find a way to use something with a 6.8 Vf.
I have read somewhere else on the board that one of our modders found a way to place four Lumileds Rebel inside the U2. I can't recall exactly who, could be Milkyspit.
I tried to place a Seoul P4 in the U2, but the light doesn't work anymore (it lights up but doesn't switches between levels).

Hope this helps

Anthony

Milky is the one who does this mod. The only problem with it is that the mod probably costs more than the light itself (4 reflectors and 4 dies, plus all the hard work).

I really hope that we can find an LED at some point to mod the U2. It's a good size, and many are 18650 compatible, but it would be great to be able to push it past the 100 lumen mark.

The SSC P7 is not due for a public release, it is an exclusive LED that is provided to surefire only.
