I'm looking for a 2 x AA light with about the features and performance of a Surefire e2L. In other words, a well built light with one output level of about 50 lumens with long runtime. I've tried a Fenix L2DQ5 but it has too many modes. The Fenix L2Tv2 is too bright and doesn't run long enough. I found several sources selling this TerraLUX LightStar 3, but can't find any mention of it on CPF. I've been happy with the TerraLUX MiniMag conversions, but would like to know a little more about this light before buying one.

I'm a new user, but have read the forum for a while. It has been very helpful.

I have one with a Luxeon Rebel emitter that can be bought here:

It's doesn't put out 90 lumens, more like 40-50. The tint is very warm, almost yellow, like most luxeon rebels. The beam is broad and offers a lot of spill (less throw) due to the textured reflector. When running on regular alkalines, you can expect about 1.5 hours of regulated output before the light flickers and goes totally out. I tried running it on rechargeables, but runtime was not significantly longer for whatever reason I don't know.

Overall its a nice 2aa light that is pretty bright, and does not kill alkaline batteries in less than 45 min. My only real problem with it is the shinny green color of the body :sick2:. A tactical black body woul have been much cooler

I agree with what Modern Major General has posted above.

+1

Also, read the following thread. Especially my post # 104.

This is a very useful and rugged flashlight for 30 bucks.

It's my very first light which uses the Rebel emitter.

Hope this answers all yer' questions.

I was thinking of getting the TLE-5EX module upgrade for the MiniMag,

and happen to see these two lights for about the same price as the upgrade.

hmmm - choices - can't decide -

BTW - here's an eBay listing that has packaging for the TLE-5EX,
but the actual Terralux website does not indicate it's a CREE (but Battery Junction says it superceeds the K2)
