I found NiMh 3500mAh packs for the MC today at Battery Junction ! Coincidence for sure!

I started my Hot wire adventure with the 1160 and a standared MC and Battery pack.
What people do not realize because they mod the 5761 to 7.2 volts and 850+ torch lumens is that it is a 6 volt bulb at 765 bulb lumens and it way out paces the 1160, 500 compared to 376 torch lumens.
Quote:"
Working with the specificationI realized because the Phillips but has a OEM specification of 6 Volts, yes, the Mag Charger is 6 Volts, and the 5761 is specified to output 765 bulb-lumens and just under 500 torch-lumens, (497 T-lumens),!!! The WA 1160 mod at best is only 376 Torch-lumens. The WA 1111 mod at best is only 572 torch-lumens!"
At 5 amps the NiMh battery pack is perfect for it. The 3.5 Ah pack should run for 0.7 hours or 42 minutes. I wrote about this mod about 20 months ago, link:
Brightest Simple Mag Charger Mod, brighter than the 1160
The 5761 usually needs a little reaming to the reflector, easily done from the rear with a ball grinding stone dressed to @ 10mm.
5761 are common and easy to get from several vendors, the WA has only one vendor I believe. I get my 5761 for five to six dollars, depending on quantity and shipping fees, from bulbconnection.com .
The wa1111, wa1160 and the 5 amp 5761 will not damage the stock reflector. I use the 5761 in MagChargers all the time. As a matter of fact the weakest point is the plastic socket in the slug. You need only to insulated it with a piece of mica used as transistor insulators from radio shack or a piece of ceramic blanket material that is often stuffed in electronic packages. Before we used these insulators all we did was lift the bulb and not seat it to the bottom and that was enough space to prevent heat damage. FM has just introduced a new ceramic socket for the MC. :goodjob: Excellent product but it is not necessary for the mods discussed here.
I suggest you search CPF key words MagCharger, Mag Charger and 5761 as alot has been done with those mods. The 1160 is the basic change the bulb mod and is several years old to the forum.
What can you do with the MC and 5761?

MagCharger Hot Wire hosts?
One thing you should not do is build parallel NiCd or NiMh packs as they do not charge correctly and you will ruin the pack. :sick2:
I have switched to lithium D packs I build for the MC in 5761s now but you can do 7.2 volts with Powerex AA very well for 2700mAh. This is the best AA for heavy drain and will handle WA bulbs and 5761 if you go to a 7.2 V system.
I wish the 3500 mAh NiMh was available when I was experimenting as I would have built and kept those with teh 5761 at 6V. Why, because they would have fit the chargers in the fleet cars. My hot wires take the 7.2V chargers now.
I love Mag Chargers,
one I own is an original, close to 30 years old now I guess. I am trying to put an Osram IRC 65 watt bulb for around 4200 lumens into.
Good luck I think you got a winner! :twothumbs
