My uncle wants me to sell a guitar for him but he doesn't know how much its worth, and we can't even decide what the brand is. It is either Jbanez or Ibanez. I found some Ibanez guitars on ebay, but no Jbanez. The problem is the logo looks different. I am not sure if the company Ibanez just changed the logo or my uncle bought some cheap knock off.

Thanks in Advance.

I know there's an Ibanez, but no Jbanez.
But that's about as much as I'm able to help, because I'm not a guitar expert. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

A search of Google brings up both Ibanez and Jbanez. Is there a model number on it? Is it electric? Made where?

I've owned a large number of ibanez's.
Can you tell me the model number? It will look somthing like RG570, or JEM7BSB.
I can give you a rough estimate.
Otherwise search already completed items on ebay for a value.

I'm sure it's Ibanez. It's probably just some graphic designer's warped idea of "cool" that's making you question its authenticity

I just took these shots. They don't seem to match the logo on their website.

That is an Ibanez. The Korean ones are the low end of their models. The headstock appears to be rosewood as well as the back of the guitar, but I would have to really look at it to tell. Low end guitar makers stain woods to look like other woods. They are OK guitars, great for somebody that doesn't want to drop too much cash starting out. These are made for Ibanez by a Korean company whose name escapes me right now. With a hard case in the $125-200 area retail, a dealer would give you about $50-75.

As an aside, Korean guitars are getting better and are no longer the bottom of the guitar maker barrel. They are about where Japan was 15 years ago. Many low end brands are out sourcing to the Phillipines and China. Epiphone, Jackson, Ibanez, and about twenty other companies are having guitars made in Korea.

PS - I noticed this, it appears to be an early nineties vintage. Also Ibanez is a Japanese company, case you do some research and get confused about where it is from.

So many guitars are being made in Japan, Korea, China, Mexico, etc these days, it's almost shocking. I paid mega premiums to buy my Jackson USA Select Soloist SL-2H. A variant made overseas would only cost half as much. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Anyway, back on topic. You may want to take a bunch of photos of the guitar and just offer it up on Ebay. bigcozy's estimates sound right to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

V8 - I didn't mean to sound critical of the guitar, if I did give you that impression. They are actually very good guitars for the money. I have bought and sold guitars for about 20 years and I also am a buyer for two small used guitar shops. When I look at a guitar, it is with the eye of someone who knows what it will resale for. Generally, the woods are very good, in this case it appears that it has rosewood headstock, back, and spruce front. They save money on labor and buying lower grades of good wood.

The Ibanez logo has changed many times, but the one on your guitar is a reissue of the mid 70's logo that was on the "lawsuit" models.

As far as the Japan guitars go. They have been making excellent guitars since at least the 80's. Some of the Les Paul copies were as good or better than anything Gibson was making at the time. They have since became very pricey for certain models. They did have low end buy many high end guitars as well. Check out Tokai, Greco, Orville etc. Sorry this got off topic a bit.

Sorry this got off topic a bit.

It's also a bit late.

This thread is seven years old. Before deviating from the topic of a seven year old thread, it would be better to create a new guitar thread. This one is closed to preserve it's archival value.
