Hello everyone, this is my first topic on cpf, and have enjoyed reading for months. I saw a couple of new led lights on glow-bug and wondered if anyone has one, or knows if they are worth purchasing? The lights in question are the 1-led 1-AAA powered shorelite vx-1, and the 2-led 1-AA powered vx-2. They both have a plastic body and both are powered by only 1 battery. According to the manufacturer they both have 4 levels of dimming. I love my arc AAA, and dont expect these to be nearly as indestructable. But they do sound kinda cool.

Any thoughts?

I think the vx-2 looks more interesting than the vx-1. For one thing, it has 2 switches, one of which allows you to turn the light on and off at full brightness (if I'm reading the description correctly). The 2nd switch allows you to cycle thru different levels of brightness. This sounds like a perfect arrangement. I don't much care for lights that only have one switch that forces you go thru a bunch of brightness levels just to turn them off. There is an earlier thread on this topic - you can do a search on "vx-1".

I know that in the instruction link from the manufacturer they both have 2 switches but the vx-1 looks a little more flimsy. Thanks I will have to see what the earlier post said.

The glow-bug site says that the first shipment of either the ShoreLite Vx-1 or Vx-2 will arrive about 11/20, so I doubt if anyone has had a chance to actually see these lights unless they work for alan lloyd design inc. (glow-bug). Oh, I did ask about if the clip was removeable on the Vx-1 and they say that the clip is optional... you dont have to put it on unless you want to.

So, the Vx-2 does not come with, nor is clip compatable? I'd kinda like to have clip-option.

This thing is starting to look real sharp.

Well, If I needed a single cell light I always have the ARC on my keychain. Just a better deal to me. While the clipmate is not very lanyardable, I find it very comfortable to carry in my pockets with the clip removed.

Spoke with alan lloyd ( http://www.glow-bug.com/ ) today about a return he helped me with. I asked about the Vx2. He showed me that if you are at the Vx2 page and click on the pic you'll get another pic that shows the pen clip. He also indicated they were still expecting them next Wed. Well, I've learned from CPF that if you want something try to pre-order it; so I asked. He said sure and did the order over the phone. I trust this guy. He stands behind his products and if you just don't like one he'll figure out how to make you happy.

The soup episode was on while I was typing this. Elain is about to get blown out of the water.

It says they are made from polycarbonate. Is that a code-word for cheap plastic? I have a Clipmate. The clip itself is flimsy and broke off at the hinge. (Gregg at BrightGuy is fantastic, he immediately shipped me a clip event without having to request it!) But the rest of the light seems quite sturdy. Would ShoreLite be at least as sturdy as Clipmate?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Polycarbonate is the expensive plastic, 100 times impact strength of glass, used for riot shields.Acrylic,ABS, Acetyl Butyrate Styrene sometimes called High Impact Plastic and Polyethelyene are the , much cheaper, plastics.

The Vx2 looks like a real winner to me.
-multiple brightness settings
-2 led
-landyard attachment
-pen clip (that actually faces the right way...backwards)
-plastic construction is great (when done right!)

It looks like the clip is on the wrong side of the light for a right handed person. Ideally, one should be able to lift it off of the belt and turn it on with the same grip...sort of like getting a proper grip on a pistol before you remove it from the holster. (Let's see if I can start something with the firearms fanatics!)

Left handed or right handed it would still point down if clipped to a belt or pocket. I know what you mean though, because I bought a friend a left handed hammer and they love it. Backwards is good for clipping a light to a hat, a headband, a chart or many other objects and letting the flashlight run. SF torches with clips are forward for quick draw. Roy can elaborate on this.

Tried to do a Google search. Only Glow Bug's site came out, so apparently they are going to be the first/only retailer?
