Anyone use AA size \"dummy\" cells?

Just getting a read on whether these would be useful for anyone.

I can think of a couple uses...

I do have some that came with my UBHs, but rarely use them as I am more a 123 guy. Of course they are usable, think of 3xAA or 6xaa combos in modded Mags for example ...

Yes..they are useful. I make my own out of a dowel..then drill a hole through the center with a copper wire run through. I have probably 5 or 6 of them.

Yes, I use them in my Chief_Wiggum's 4AA-to-D cell adaptors. Sometimes I need to test other things with one cell, then I use a dummy to tke up space.

I just stumbled across some that are under a couple bucks each. I was considering placing an order for 30 or so. If there's enough of an interest, I may do a group buy. Here's a pic of what they look like:

They are 10 for $10 at CCrane (w/ free shipping).
I have two of these, and I had to work them with a file to get the plating off. Mine were 1 Ohm each...

Once you got the plating off, how'd they read, or is 1 ohm after filing?

I don't need 10 of them, a group buy would allow people to just pick up two or three. Not that I'm volunteering to do it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK, then what I'm gonna do is buy some of them tomorrow and then just put 'em up on B/S/T at whatever they are cost + ship.

After filing, mine read 0.1 Ohm.

They are on closeout page 1, here, third item.

Or, search on the word "dummy".

I would like two more, if someone doesn't want all 10 of theirs.

I believe "mmuralt" sold them at one time on e-bay (I may have the name mixed up with someone else) but I did get mine for about 10¢ each (I had to buy a bunch though). But I included them in many of my mods so I'm down to only what I want to keep and cannot provide anyone with any more.

That person also does/did post here at CPF quite often in the past, but may have gone away as I do not recall who it is and also do not see him posting now (he offered modded Energizer DoubleBarrels on e-bay as well, as I seem to recall). He did have a TON of them he was trying to unload though, and may have done just that through CCrane or somebody.

They do come in handy for those 6AA 5W direct drive mods for example, like when you want to run the light at a more "reasonable" input closer to spec such as 7.5V (using one dummy) for maximum Luxeon life.

That was user "Mike". He hasn't posted since May. He was also a dealer that runs The Deal Site. He may have been lost with the new advertising policies.
