Hi, I've had a 6D Mag in my truck for a long time. Went to a White Star Xenon bulb, then to NiMH batteries with good success. Now, I would like to try out the new Mag LED bulb. However, it is only made for a 2,3,4 cell light. Also, Mag does NOT recommend rechargeables... What is the harm since the voltage is lower w/ NiMH than Alkalines? Thanks!

I don't know exactly why Mag does not recomment rechargeables... I think it was answered here once before. A 6D with NiMh will be over 6 volts still, and the 4 cell MagLED will fry if ran on anything over 6.

Thing is, MagLED's are all pretty much the same brightness... 2cell, 3cell, 4cell... only run time is better with more batteries. Some people will tell you to get 2 "dummy" D cells and put them in your 6D, with 4 batteries, and use the MagLED 4 cell. That will work!

Or you could forget the MagLED and get a new brighter LED drop in from TerraLux here

Anyway, if you don't plan on using the White Star Xenon in the 6D anymore, the whole advantage of the 6D - huge brightness - starts to falter. LED is just as bright on a 4 cell light... so you can get a smaller light at the same time. Lots of possibilities and combinations. Some would say keep the White Star bulb and 6D, but get a second smaller back up LED flashlight. The more lights the better!

Well, you already have NiMHs, so you have already forked out for the most expensive part of a ROP upgrade. Some users have reported using the low output Pelican Big D(400 lumen) successfully WITHOUT reflector and window upgrades.

Should you want to use the high output Pelican bulb, you will also need a glass window and metal reflector. This will set you back maybe $30. This would give you 1150 bulb lumens!

I know that this is completely off-topic from an LED upgrade, but I had considered an LED upgrade for the 6D and concluded that it was not worth it, so now I'm going down a ROP-route.
