<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I can make it like the other pic with the taper from the body to the head section. And I could also make a rounded sweep (convex then concave). The latest pic is square with a slight radius on the out side corner. I made it this way to see how light I could make it. It is not hard to change it though so I may make several styles. The wall is too thin to knurl after the inside is drilled or I would do that. I may add a bunch of fine groves along the smaller diameter. I am hopeing to get some 1/2 inch aluminium in so I can make some out of that. I used to have about 20, 12 foot bars of 1/2 aluminum leftover from a job, but that was before I found CPF. Lots of brass though.

Prehaps I will get a chance to sneek some in on a weekend. They only take 2 min. each once the machine is setup. If I am running a simmilar job it shouldn't take long to setup. Timing is the key. If I do make some, I probably run off two bars worth.

I could try some 303 stainless.
That shouldn't be too hard. But 17-4 PH would look better and be lighter, but it is hard to machine. We'll just have to see.

I'm thinking that I "almost" don't care what it's made of (well no plastic!)...I'D APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET IN ON "AT LEAST" ONE!!

Stainless would be "SWEET"!! What's 17-4 PH? All this teasing...I'm getting "excited"...I have to go to my "special dark place" with my new light meter now!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If I make... ER that is When I make these I will check this thread and make offers to all who want them.

17-4 PH is a type of stainless steel. Often called surgical SS. The numbers indicate what kind of alloy and the PH stands for Precipitaion Hardening. That just means that you can harden it by holding it at a high tempiture for a period of time. Very high strength to weight ratio. Looks good too. Brighter and more silver looking than most SS.

CNC Dan,

After having my hands on BABY for a few days of testing and pictures, you can put my name at the top of your list!! Have you made one up with the curvey shape yet? I though that might be nice looking...but you would need to look at the shape to tell if the design works. I could have sold 5 of them in the few days it was in my hands!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I haven't made any but the type you have and the oridginal. The curvy style will add weight and some want to keep it as light as possable. The inside has to be the shape of the ARC head, so any shape that doesn't closly follow it has more metal.

As far as making one from 17-4 PH, I will try after I run some brass or AL ones off. It is a pain to machine,(the chips don't break into small pices) so I won't risk it untill after I have made some brass or AL ones.

The square edged one I made head to tail(I had to use what tools I had loaded) on a CNC lathe, but the first one was made from a leftover treaded piece from another mod.
See: other therad on CPF

I had the thread cut on the CNC lathe and I drilled and turned down the outside as much as I dared. If I went too far I might have broken through and who knows when I would be able to make more. By making the whole thing on the CNC lathe I can get things very close. I would like to add the laynard hole to the tail end. I did that by hand. I know the machine can mill on a cylinder so prehaps I could wright "CPF" on the head end.

How much are people willing to pay for these?
If I can get enough for them and enough people are interisted, I could have my boss do a bid and run off a few hundred.

Brass, aluiminium, anodized aluminium(colors), aluminium hard anodized (HA).

And possable laser etching.

What would people want and what would they pay???

Im going to start another thread, answer there.

With all due respect to designing such a fine piece, cost of the material, tools & time taken to produce it...

Of course we want it to be as "affordable as possible" while at the same time making it worth your while. If it went over the price of an ARC AAA, I would think that would be prohibitive.

Seeing as the "brains of the ARC AAA" should be the most expensive part of the torch...I'm sure most of us have at least one AAA around that could go into this body, thus no added expense other than the new housing at this time. However someone who has to buy a new AAA, then the new housing...The total cost now would be starting to perhaps be "out of reach" to some.

The bottom line is how much it costs you to produce a batch and then tack on a reasonable percentage for your logistics, eh?

Well I sure didn't give you any numbers did I!
