"ARC LS Modular" is the new name I've come up with for this mod.

I just finished the heatsink proto that will allow use of std dat2zip sammie. This mod does away for the need for all of the small parts.

Most importantly allows the use of a standard sammie. As the most critical missing component is the Arc board.

Using an SO17 reflector, MM+ Tbin and R123 li-ion. Output and throw is better than my ARC4X, which is verified at 46+ lumens.

Here are some pictures of the first working model. Please note the final heatsink will have threads to eliminate need for the locking ring.

Key to this mod is the twisty has to be milled deeper to give room for sammie. Also the final twisty will allow wayne's two stage switch, completing the upgrade of the fabulous ARC LS. Hey Peter wish you had done this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif

wow nice CY
i did similar thing, except i don't use sammich. Instead i use the board itself attached permanently to a sink and lux. i will get photo as soon as i am able to.

With ARC gone, supporting ARC LS boards would take up more resources than volunteers would be able to give. This simple mod solves all those issues. Also any sammie from say a firefly would transferable.

I'll be offering this as a kit soon (less electronics). I'm in the proccess of getting make more proto's to reduce length further. And getting quotes on cost of machining and HA. Setup costs for CNC as I'm finding out are very expensive.

I'm not sure where this thread will end up with ARC forum closing tonight.

Cy, would you offer the service to shorten the pack itself?

cy,

I see you changed the desogn, and are not threading the sink itself now?

Will you be offering the threaded retainer rings seperately?

-John

Nice work cy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This has been a long time coming, I'm glad someone is finally stepping up to this challenge. A modular Arc will be a great thing!

What are the possibilities in making this work with the standard clickie pack?

The kit I'll be offering should include SO17, Heatsink and HA 123 twisty custom milled out to allow room for sammie and be flat to accept wayne's two stage switch.

with the copper version you have the option to drop a 5watt BB750 sammie or MM light TWOJ sammie for several hours runtime. The aluminum version may handle both. don't know still testing.

Work on the click packs will be done after this first project is finished.

This is no reason why a 2x AA clicky pack cannot be cut down to a 1x AA pack w/clicky to suport 14500 li-ion.

Is it that hard to spell sandwich...?

Wasn't Jtice working on these first? I know I've been talking with him for the past month and he's had some working ones made, and the idea to get them cast in metal since before Arc went under.

I was, am, working on something very similar.

Mine is a threaded heatsink, made to use a badboy madmax, or downboy converter.
Not to use sandwich modules. Though, all it would take is a hole drilled in the top. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Please dont PM me asking for these yet, I am in teh developement stage, and I am not even sure if casting them will work.

Timeline? Pricing? Any chance you'll have some empty Arc bodies to complete the kit?
Count me in!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wow, the ARC lives on, and on, and on - now in modular form. This mod is especially nice since you can revert back to the original ARC electronics.

Nice job.

Regards.

A few empty ARC LSH bodies will be available to complete the kit. Pricing will be determined by material, machining and HA costs.

Timeline hopefully will be soon. I will not acept funds until they are ready to ship.

Please bear with me, as I put it all together.

Well, if I were to get off my butt and run some .200" "cans" on the new lathe in my garage, and WayneY were to cooperate, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif .

Larry

Larry, ooooo a new lathe??? what cha get? how about some pic's?

I've got to make do with my 1950's southbend lathe and Chinese milling machine.

Thank you cy, I'll be twirling my thumbs waiting in line /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Awesome!!

Could these be made available on the Shoppe for those of us unfortunate souls who don't have access to paypal?
