I've been a member here for quite a while and have heard of Arc flashlights almost from the start. I love their AA & AAA lights and own several (see my collection).

But, I have yet to buy an Arc LS. I have tried commercial LS flashlights (Reactor & Reactor III) but just wasn't that impressed. A while passed and I acquired a KL1 and a KL3 which I really like. Then, I took the plunge and bought a SNII, and KL4 for my E1e/E2e lights. I love the KL4 (except for the donut hole) and the sheer amount of light it produces from such a small light.

So, I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to Arc LS lights. Is the one that Peter is mentioning here, an Arc-LSL really worth getting or will it duplicate something I already have like my E1e/KL1 or E1e/KL4?

I do plan on getting a LS4 when they're available and am really dying to get a SureFire L5 so I can't just "get them both" even though I have seem to adopted that lately as my personal mantra.

So, pros? cons? wait? buy? HELP!!

The beam on the ARC LSL-S is about like the one on the KL1. The ARC is smaller and you get the option of using AAs. I would get the ARC because it's the "Classic" 1 watt luxeon IMHO. I can't tell you to get it, but this should give you enough information to make your decision.

Well, to be brutally honest, the LSL-S is about equal to your E1e/KL1. The only real advantages are that it is smaller and you can use it with NiMH accus in combination with the TSP2AA.

If you want to make Peter happy buy the LSL .. otherwise wait for the LS4. :-)

I have a reactor- I thought the beam was "a tiny bit green".... that was until I shined it on a white ceiling next to the oputput of my LSH-S.... then it was HORRIBLY green.

I don't think it will duplicate anything you have- just the size of it alone makes it unique. I carry it every day- it took only an hour to make it my favorite. You MUST get the nylon pouch! I love it. The only cons about getting a LSH is that you will start to hate your reactors. I also have the AA pack- it's nice to be able to let it run on rechargeable AAs. It's a great product- I wish I had bought one a long time ago.

If you have a job that you can (or need to) carry a light.. or have any desire to carry a light on your person for any length of time at all- you will find the LSH indespensible.

The ARC has a more efficient circuit than the KL1. The ARC LS runs for 2 hours on 1x123 and the KL1 runs for 1 hour & 30 minutes on 1x123. I thought I should add this just in case you are trying to talk yourself into buying the ARC LS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I haven't completely decided one way or the other.
I do know I really, REALLY want that L5.

I also know that the more I use my KL1 & KL3, the more I don't care for the violet color. I like the white white of the McModule in my PM6 and my SNII and my KL4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Don't forget that the ARC comes with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. If it's not what you expect it to be, you can return it. Your only risk is $2-3 for return postage. My bet is that you won't be paying the postage fee.
 
it is the smallest of its kind, it is tough as hell, it gives you a lot of power options, it has a cool runtime of 2h, it is regulated with a moon mode, it is completely waterproof, AND you can join the quest for the twisty cap!

seriously, it mostly will depend on your attitude towards LD LEDs with NX05 optix ...
 
how does it do in brightness compard with an E1e/KL1?
E2e/KL1?
E1e/KL4?
E2e/KL4?
McGizmo 5W PM6 mod?

beam shots with the Arc-LSL with other LS lights?
 
Your E1e/KL1 is about the same. I would wait until the LS4, now you have something very different and unique.

I was a skeptic too before I bought one...

Don't take MY word for it- don't take the word of these guys either-

Take a look at Quickbeams' review- take a look at ANYONE'S review! I have searched the web far and wide. I haven't found a single site that dislikes this light!

The decision is yours- all I can tell you is how happy I am with it.... only wish they were cheaper.. I'd buy a dozen.
 
I agree that you will like the LS a lot. You won't find a light this small that is this bright and lasts this long. Maybe you should spend a few minutes looking through the rave reviews in the forum, and then look through the bad reviews. Good luck finding a bad one because I've never found anyone who doesn't like their LS. People who think that $20 is too much for a flashlight won't like them, but judging by your collection, I can see you're a true flashaholic and would understand what makes the LS special the minute you see it in action.

right now, I'm really looking for beamshots comparing the Arc LSL against other Arc versions as well as the LSL against the other commercially available LS LED's.

This brings me back to the first LSH-P I bought. I paid almost full retail and after receiving it I walked around in a daze not believing I spent 140 bucks on a flashlight, the daze subsided and then I began to slowly use the light. Within a couple of days I realized the "work of art" I posessed and haven't looked back since. I have had several since that time and am still amazed by these little gems. I got this from a beamshot database... the LSL is supposed to be the one on the left, the LSH on the right.

I don't mind a bluish hue to the beam, find that pretty attractive actually... what I hope I can avoid is a greenish hue to the beam! /me throws the dice.

since I'm looking for more of a floodlight, and will use the modified 5 watt "6 c cell" luxeon mag with it's beautiful blistering white beam as a throw light... so the LSL should work out nicely as long as I win the luxeon lottery, since they seem to have sold out of them in short order.
