/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gifI am sure that one or more of you all know the answer to this question. That is why I am asking. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gifI have a question. I don't know if it is a dumb one or not. My brother is a hunter and sometimes has to track at dusk and dark. So my question is will the ARC-AAA UV show fresh blood better, or is there a better color?

Thanks

mut,

well I think an ARC AAA UV wouldn't work for tracking in the woods, it simply doesn't put out enough *visible* light. Don't get me wrong - it *does* show blood, but it just won't work out in the woods because you would need another light to see the path and this would completely override the ARC UV.

Your brother would be better of with an ARC LS "royal blue" or any Surefire with a blue filter - basically any bright blue light with as much UV in the spectrum as possible. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks. For the info Connor!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Your brother may also want to consider an Inova X5T UV. Beretta1526 may be doing another group buy order for them this coming week. I got 2 of them @ $50 ea. with the pending order. They usually run between $65-$80. I think this throws the most UV light of a commonly available (and reasonably priced) ultraviolet flashlight. You can check out the UV group buy thread here.

From what I understand, a Royal Blue LS or UV aren't the best lights for hunting, unless you are hunting minerals. A blue filter can be effective, but a blue (not royal) LS with an NX-05 works very well as a good blue light (SureFire KL1, Arc LSL, Dat2Zip Sandwich in a minimag). The RB tends to get to you after a short time and makes some people feel ill. (odd, but true)

My brother-in-law is using a blue KL1 on a 2-cell body. He tried the Inova X5 with blue LED's, but found the concentric rings annoying. The KL1 has an odd grill pattern from the die that can be ssmoothed with a little tiny piece of Write-Right directly in the middle and is quite bright.

BUT, don't let me talk you out of anything... I would certainly accept a reservation for another Inova X5 UV.

Thanks to you all for the input. I knew that I would get good well rounded answers from you all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

Thanks again
