Gransee,

I was browsing the FAQ section on the ARC4. I just noticed on the ARC website that the ARC4 is supposed to have an AR coated Lexan lens.

I have two here that have no AR coating, and I do know what AR coated Lexan looks like.

Since you mentioned it was Silicon based, I assume it is the Silicon Dioxide based version, instead of the Magnesium Flouride based AR.

Did you mean Hardcoat? That is a whole different ball of wax.

Do you have AR coated Lexan pre-cut available? I'd sure like to get the 6-8% increase in light by having an AR coated lens.

AR can mean either Anti-Abrasion or Anti-reflective. It depends on the supplier. We use Anti-Abrasion. It took awhile for our supplier to get it.

Yes, I can understand your suppliers dilema. I'm not sure how a fella gets from AA (Anti-Abrasion) to AR.

In reality the term used is Abrasion Resistant, and it is utilized by the Cyro brand line (and others) of hard coated plastics.

Such as the Acrylite AR, Acrylite GAR, and Cyrolon AR

Abrasion Resistant

GE also uses the term but uses the full word:
GE Lexan

I don't know if this was posted before, but I want to know if someone can tell me what is the better tool for unscrewing the screw who hold back the ARC4 lens ? I want to change it by an UCL lens but I am afraid to scratch the head with inappropriate tools. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks

I would like to know as well! I went to Wally World and asked to see the tool that is used to take the back off of ladies watches and that didn't work. I also read to maybe cut a old credit card to size but that didn't work either.

Oops. Newbie, you are right. It is Abrasion Resistant not Anti-Abrasion. That's what I get for multi-tasking.

A couple of years ago, I asked our material supplier, "why do material manufacturers use the abreviation "AR" to describe two completely different coatings? Don't they know this is going to confuse people?"

Lava, use a snap-ring plier with exchangeable tips. the smallest size in my package fits ARC4 perfect. Please note the notch in ARC4 locking ring is actually half-oval.

Thanks Lava, I have found a solution into your post /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I tried with an old credit card, and I haven't had problem for unscrewed mine.
Cy, even if you don't reply to me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Have you a picture of your snap-ring plier with exchangeable tips ? And where could we find one ? Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hi Pascal, Ive changed my lens by a UCL using a caliper, just put the top jaws (to measure the interior diameter of a pipe)into the retainer ring notches and spin, give some pressure like opening the tool to avoid the tool going off and scratching the lens/ring, it works fine.

Thanks Martin, but I haven't a caliper /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
But no problem, I am just waiting now for my UCL lens delivery /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
