Arc4 Switch anomaly?

i've recently noticed that when clicking the switch on my arc4+, the switch goes on before the membrane switch actually clicks. this sometimes results in unintentional double clicks, where the switch doesn't physically click twice. i can't remember if this quirk was already present on my arc4 when i got it, and i don't know if this is normal.

has anyone else noticed this too with their arc4s?

My Arc 4's switch is too touchy, anyone know how to tweak it so it doesn't turn on so easily? Mine is an Arc 4+ second # 0415 --- had it about 10 days, and love it, but it's been turning on too easy as I've been using the heck out of it.

i'm not really referring to the tension of the switch (i'm fine with that). what i mean is that the switch can turn on, before it actually "clicks" into the on position. anyhow i'll try tweaking the tension of the spring to see if it fixes the problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

ok it doesn't fix the problem. it might just be a characteristic of membrane switches /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif in any case its not really an issue. just thought i'd mention it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't have one to try yet, but I understood the switch acts like a momentary switch before it clicks on. When you press and hold from off, the light stays on until you release it. If you press and release quickly, it stays on. That might be why you see it come on before the click.

fastlane, i understand what you mean, but that is not the case /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif the switch on the arc4 is very much like the clicking buttons on most handphones. now imagine if a particular button on your handphone gets activated before the button actually clicks tactilely...that's what i was describing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have one that I don't hear the click, it's kinda like in the thread posted above, like push a pencil eraser. If I back the switch assy out about 1 turn I can hear the click. Do I depress or stretch the spring?? thanks, Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

mine clicks audibly, but pressing it a certain tension (just less than the amount required to click it) makes the switch turn on before it clicks. everone else i've asked to observe it doesn't seem to notice it as much as i do, so perhaps i'm being picky. could be that i'm used to controlling the tension on the switch because i've been EDCing a SF A2 before the arc4 came along, in order to use the LED low-beam mode /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just received my new spring from ARC. What excellent customer service!!!

After installing the new spring, I find that you can achieve the same results by compressing or expanding the original spring.

After I reduced the spring tension, there is world of improvement in the feel and action.

I recommend this tune up for everyone who complaints of no feedback in switch.

This one thing has completely changed my impression of Arc4+. Instead of a dull hard, lifeless feel, Arc4+ now feels very lively and easy to use.

Now if we can just improve the locking function. As this will make the light easier to accidently trip on. Until then I'll unscrew 1/4 turn the body for fail safe off.

Interestingly enough, I have an ARC4+ and an ARC4+ "second". The second has a quiet, but audible "click", whereas the first makes absolutely no noise. Personally, I prefer the slight "clicking" noise over no sound at all, but I will leave them both just as they are!!!

jarhead: the switch still works the same as it does if i don't press it all the way, just that there isn't any tactile feedback. so if i push it in and the light turns on and release it straight away, it goes into constant on. this makes for some unintentional double or triple clicks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

cy: how did arc send you the spring? i'd like this upgrade but i don't want to pay $12 for shipping /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Maybe see if they can send it in a regular envelope by US mail, so shipping is only 0.35 or whatever it it these days.

Humm, I'm surprised the ARC4 doesn't have a switch debouncing routine in it chamenos, to avoid the accidental double or triple clicks you mentioned.

jarhead: i'll email merri gransee to see what can be worked out /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif i wonder if my switch is defective, though i wouldn't know unless i had another arc4 to compare it with. i'd hate to get it exchanged because its kinda grown on me and i like the tint of the LED in it.
