1: is it possible to exchange the led?

2: oops, wrong thred /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

just reread some of the post, and found it funny to hear people talking about doubleclicking their flashlights /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yellowlaugh.gif

does the switch provide tactile feedback? this may have already been covered, but if so i missed it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I see that the body under the Clip is knurled (unlike the E2e body)

So the basic question still remains: can the Arc4 be set to the "boost mode" as the primary setting, in which case there is no boost mode beyond it? If this is so, the original idea of the boost mode (momentary extreme brightness beyond any primary setting) has been rethought.

Another way of stating it: is the "boost mode" one of the 17 configurable modes in the Brightness Menu, or is it beyond them? Peter??

Short answer to your 1st paragraph.... YES. I say YES from what I'm seeing with my unit. If you make primary/secondary the highest setting and PUSH for BOOST, there is no visible change.

So the answer to you 2nd paragraph would be YES. BOOST most is one of the levels to be selected, meaning you can configure your light to come on at it's very highest setting. In doing this, you effectively have no BOOST mode.

Thanks for the answers guys!

Two more questions:

1) Both of you have chosen to remove the pocket clip. This leaves a hole in the side of the bezel. Does this hole compromise the waterproofness? How big is the hole? The screw itself?

2) Are you guys testing the Standard or Premium model? I don't think it's been mentioned..

Brian

as has been said already, the screw holes dont affect waterproofness.

i'd assume that since this is a proto, it's niether a premium or a standard.
the light will function the same either way, the main differences being brightness and color.
i would assume that if you had to call it something, it would be premium, from what we've seen in these reviews.

1) The hole does not compromise waterproofness. I'm not a mechanical type guy so I can't say what size screw it uses. Peter/Henry may chime in here.

2) The test units all use Q3 LED's so they are premiums. The 4+ inscription (the plus denoting premium) indicates this.

Software Design Question:
When you power-up the unit and press the button multiple times does it keep changing brightness levels or does it wait for you to stop pressing the button before it turns on the LED?

This question is a follow-up to CM's "potty run" comment. If you wake up and turn on the light and it flashes at full power your spouse will kill you (and your night vision will be shot). If it waits for you to choose the low power setting then you might save both your life and your night vision.

Second Comment: Artar appears to be correct. The knurling under the clip will (from experience with knives and lights) kill your pockets. It would be great if the metal under the clip could be milled off (a la Surefire).
This would reduce the tension but the Arc4 appears to be quite light (pun intended).---Marc

So, there are THREE light levels you can use?
Primary, secondary, and that 3 click to low light level?

I thought we could only have 2, plus boost?
I hope its like I think, from whats said above.
Double clicking toggles from primary to secondary, 3 clicks goes to low light leverl, and holding goes to boost. Till you release.

Well as far as looks. I like it, and I dont.
Overall shape and size is good. But I REALLY would have liked to see knurling on the head.
The clip looks cheap on the light. Its not that that clip it self looks cheap, just looks cheap on that Arc.
So, theres just one screw holding it on? I assume that screw hole isnt all the way into the light. As stated above, for water proof reasons.

The beam.... OUTSTANDING !!! That is simply the BEST beam I have ever seen out of a light this size. I hope we start to see these reflectors for sale seperately for our mods. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif In the pics, I assume the Arc4 is set to its highest light level? (not counting boost)

Overall, I really like the light, it could basically look like crap, having the multiple light levels would make up for it. The LS looks alittle more refined, and stylish, but the Arc4 looks more rugged, and strong.

Oh, also,,,

I thought that all along Peter said that there would NOT be knurling under the clip? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Make that FOUR actually IMO

Two "selectable" (primary/secondary) plus two "fixed" (lowest and highest).

If any of the primary/secondary is set to either highest /lowest you obviously lose one out of this four choices.

Klaus

Ahhh ok, thats very nice.

So, you select your primary and secondary, and you have boost by holding the button,, and the lowest by 3 clicks.
Thats great.

OK, 2 questions then.

1) If the light is off, and I click it 3 times, will it goto that lowest light setting? Or will it blind me first? (this was also asked above)

2) How does the lowest light level compare to the Arc AAA, Arc AA?

TIN,

If the light is configured to come on in the highest setting does it stay there for 30 seconds or so and then the thermal management kicks in and lowers it? You can not turn on in boost mode and "stay there" for 15 minutes can you?

I too would like to know the answer for the following question:

If the light was turned off while in primary mode and then you want to turn it back on 10 min later but instead of primary mode you want it to come on in secondary mode..... is there anyway to double/triple click or whatever to get it there without the flash of bright light inbetween?

Will Semi-tactical mode solve this without the blinking of the light etc?

The test samples are premiums (I believe it was stated earlier that they are all Q bin). The plus sign after the 4 (in the picture) is the designation to indicate premium.

Make the Primary brightness setting your desired "come on" level then set "Force Primary" in the options menu. The light will always come on in that selected level and a double click will switch to the secondary which you may want to set brighter.

I hope I got that right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry to ask again about what must seem to be already have been stated but just to confirm ---- in setting Primary to the highest level---- this is I understand boost mode, does it only stay at this level for as long as the circuitry allows and then drop down to next level?

cue, the scenario you are talking about is possible if you set the following:

Set Primary to dim and Secondary to bright
Force Primary on

Latch light on, toggle to secondary (set to bright), use light at bright setting, turn off when finish.

The next time you turn the light on, it will immediately go to the dim setting, "without passing Go or collecting $200".

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This works for momentary, latching and both tac modes.

If you find that in your normal course of usage you often need the light to come on at a dim setting without any bright flashes or thunder /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif, then the above setup is for you. Full power is only a click away and you may also double click to your other bright setting.

Peter

that's the way mine will be set up.
hot diggity doggity.
now, about that cranial knurling....
