Arc5 Testing

Will there be Betatesters of Arc5 also or will it be sufficient woth the tests done woth the Arc4? (this new astonishing concept is the same platform in both of them and in the same size so maybe some runtimetests is al extra that is needed? )


The Arc4+ and the Arc5 will definitely be the best flashlights available now.

Will there be an Arc5 and an Arc5+ and what will the prizes be?

Even though the Arc5 is mostly an extention of the Arc4, I would still like to beta test it. Those testers have already been selected. Sorry.

The price for the Arc5 has not been set yet.

Peter, could you please tell me what the ARC5 is supposed to accomplish? Since the ARC4 now has trouble achieving full brightness with only one battery, an ARC5 standard would behave no differently from an ARC4 standard unless you use 2x123.

Maybe there will only be one version of Arc5 (thus not Arc5 and Arc5+)


I guess You will have to only pick the best ones (the ones with boards and LED's in AT LEAST the same high standard as the Arc4+) to be able to drive the Arc5 with a single 123 cell? And thus there will only be the + version (even if it perhaps isn't called +),
Is that correct? That would also explain the big pricedifference compared to the Arc4+.

Will the Arc5 be able to run longer, shorter och the same time as the Arc4+, given that i I'm running it on the same lumen?

That would make sense to have all the Arc5's as premiums. The very high price of the device will ensure that Peter will not sell out in hours so he can be choosey. The Arc5 is achievable with high binned, low forward voltage 5W Luxeons. The elusive high binned 5 watters will take a lot of time to procure and will most likely have a higher price.
Would I pay $250 for an underdriven 5 watt flashlight? You bet! Peter will have to go to much trouble to get the binning, thermal and electrical capacity figured out and that is worth it in the purchase price. Premium parts are not easy to find and they sure don't come cheap.
Knowing the guys on CPF, the Arc5 will probably sell out in 4 hours. The reviews that will show up a day or two later will tell me what is inside.
It is a shame Peter will not use me as a tester /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif I find it entertaining destroying...err testing things. At least I would of noted the clip problems

Anything new about the Arc5?

Not really much response in this thread but I'm writing a question anyway.
I read from the chat last saturday that the Arc5 was expected to be sort of 40% brighter measured in Lumens (compared to Arc4+)
Does this mean that the Arc4x and the ARc5 will be equally bright?

The Arc5 will use a 5 watt emitter. I hope that means a wider beam.

The 4+ is rated at 30 lumens and the 4x at 45 lumens so that's 50% brighter than the 4+.

I have seen the rating of Arc4+ and Arc4X but was interested in Arc5 compared to it.

Yes and no, I think. Since the 5W has a larger die, the light should have a larger and brighter spill and a larger hot spot but not a brighter hot spot nor longer throw. I suspect the 4x will have longer throw than the 5W by a little. We'll just have to wait and see.

I would wager that itl'l replace the price of the Arc4 when it first came out.
