Thanks for the review! Especially the beamshots! I got my BadBoy 400 yesterday and the first thing I noticed was the beam was pretty green. The color of your BB400 beam is about the same as mine. I was thinking I lost the Luxeon lottery, but now it seems like other Q2 LEDs are like mine. Although it is not as white as I might prefer, it still puts out a lot of light!

I'd like to see you add some info on use with NiMH. Because the modules are regulated, they are the perfect candidates to be used with the lower initial voltage rechargeables without suffering any loss of output. I have about 6 and use NiMH with all of them.

Also, I strongly recommend use of the Kroll. The heatsink is the physical contact of the module with the lip of the host. Breaking that contact every time you turn it off and on increases the chance of getting some kind of crude, particle, etc that might not allow it to seat well, which could lead to overheating. The plus is also the momentary on that I find that I personally use as much 50% of the time.

The Brinkmann Legend 2AA makes an excellent host and comes with an end switch. Others have commented that it has more mass and therefore acts as a better heatsink. I like it better for all those reasons, but mainly because it isn't a Mag.

Thanks for the review. I hope more people find out how great these little modules are.

They are excellent little modules.

I know it's probably inappropriate, but I'm going to mention it regardless. Besides, you can't get them anymore anyway... I have a Lambda Ill Pill - the first pill-type drop-in Luxeon module for the MiniMag and I absolutely adore it. I was lucky and Lambda sold me one of the last ones he had hanging around - a rare, almost perfect, white Luxeon. IIRC, the Ill Pill is voltage regulated, not current regulated like the BadBoy, which makes the BadBoy more advanced.

A BadBoy won't disappoint you at all if you get one. That much light coming out of a Minimag is always a treat! Plus it makes anyone who borrows it look straight into the beam because they know something's not right with a Minimag being that bright!

The MadMax+ is just screaming bright for a 3v Luxeon mod. Really nice, but sucks the batteries down in about an hour (but what the heck, 2AA only cost about $1.00...)

Can the MM+ run on NiMH?

I'm running the MM+ on two 2100 NiMH and find that performance is terrific.

Just as bright as fresh alkaline, but more consistent output. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Another great review Quickbeam. How do you go about getting an MM+ R2H?
I have a BB400 Q3 in it and I reckon this is my most impressive LS. It's the whitest LS I have. It's not quite as bright as my Arc LSL-P but I much prefer the whiteness of the BadBoy to the purplish Arc.

Balrog,
The MM+R2H is a special order item from the Sandwich Shoppe and they are generally not available. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I know Wayne is re-configuring the BB400/BB500 and MM series of drop-ins. The R series may become an upgrade for the standard Q series?
I use BB500 R2H lights for EDCs and mounted on my bicycle helmet complete with Fraen low profile optics. They are very, very bright and work well to be noticed when riding after dark. The MM+ is a great regulator to use for 2D Mags and the "new" Luxeon III "3-watt" LEDs. The MM+ should kick 800 to 900mA off of two D cells and they will run around 10 hours of blinding light.

BentHeadTX,
Have ordered a BB500 R2H to pop in my much anticipated awaited Firefly which will become my new EDC. I think it might have been the last of the R2Hs he had - I couldn't get an MM+ R2H as these were already all gone.

Alan_L,
As far as I know the '2' in Q2 means greenish. I have a BB400 Q3 (3 means white) and it is the whitest LS I own. However, I am colourblind so I'm probably not the best person to judge this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
