Have never used any of the converters from the shoppe so bear with me.
I want to run a lux III at 7-800ma on 2D alkalines.

1. spec sheet says 400ma output but converter comparison page says 1amp possible. So I should be okay?

2. Is there 1 or 2 pads for soldering the sense resistor(s)?

Thanks

A BadBoy blank is just that, where the two pads for sense resistors are blank so that you can create your own custom output configuration. Each resistor is $.25 and to have them soldered on for you another $3.00.

Wayne has some BB700 boards as of right now for sale. It would be cheaper to just buy that then to get a blank with resistors and soldered on. You'll save $1.50.

To get 800ma you would need two .12 sense resistors which would actually give you 833ma. Using a .12 & a .15 resistors would get you 750ma. A .12 & a .18 would get you 694ma if you prefer to solder those tiny little suckers yourself to save $1.50. These suckers are real tiny, I would rather just pay to have Wayne solder them for me as I always have. And if you do decide to solder them yourself, don't do it in a room that's dark or that has carpet. If you drop one, you'll most likely never find it.

I guess I didn't phrase my question right /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifWhat I am trying to figure out is if there are 2 separate locations for sense resistors. In other words, If the current I desire req. 2 resistors am I going to have to stack them? If so, your dang right I'm going to have Wayne do the soldering! If there are 2 locations then I'll go ahead and take a crack at it because I may not get the expected output I'm looking for and will have to re configure anyways. I have a background in avionics and am fairly skilled with a soldering iron. But I will admit as I look at this arc ls board in front of me I have never soldered anything close to the size of these smt components. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Disregard this post. It wasnt written by a tired dumb---.

BB has two separate locations for sense resistors. Here is a BB picture from Wayne's site.

Watch the left side of the board. A sense resistor marked R10 is loaded on one location (R2). You can find empty pads (R2A) just above that. You can solder another sense resistor to that location.

DB can have two sense resistors too. Wizard can have one only (so I had to stack a sense resistor to make Wizard 600).

Oh crap! Sorry about that Darkzero. I was just getting ready to reply to KJ and re-read your reply and.....You answered my question in the very first sentence. For some reason I interpreted "two pads.." to mean the 2 solder points for one resistor /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/whoopin.gif on me. Okaaay. Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to bed /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

Thanks,

bhds, to give you an idea how really small these resistors are, here's a comparison photo.
The 222 ohm resistor pictured to the left is that of the size similar to the R15 resistor on an ARC-LS board. The ones on Wayne's boards are the 5 .12's in the white strip. I've soldered these a few times and the first two times I tried wasn't fun. But practice makes better at it as I can't say I'm perfect yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif
