Badboy on PR Base

Hah hah, bad heat sinking.. unless the reflector is aluminium?

Is that a BB500 or BB400? Aww... either way it's going to be hot.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

I should state this is a custom mount for a 2D rayovac light im working on. there will be a large finned copper heatsink installed on top with artic alumina. this is a badboy 500 to be using 30mm optics. preliminary test shows to have great beam "throw" and of coarse with D cells long burn time.

Aahhh... be sure to post some high res pics when you've finish fully modding it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

nice!

i do second nerds heatsinking concern though...please post pics of the heatsink /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

you might consider a heatsink that carries the heat down also, i'm thinking that depending on the socket, it might work well to have a heatsink that is designed like a bottle cap with a hole in the middle that carries the heat down...?

ok, just an off topic question that the picture has brought to my mind...can the area between badboy "breads" be epoxied?

I think the answer to Roth's question is yes. You have a light bulb if I'm not wrong, what's your idea? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

thanks nerd /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twak.gif

i was just concerned about heat dissipation from the curcuit, and epoxy insulating it.

the epoxy was formed between the boards by wayne to prevent colapsing of the two, if gorilla hands were to decide that the mag was not really shut off when the light goes off. this pr base has more heatsinking from the positive pole on the bottom via a 16ga wire soldered to the post and then to the solder post on the base AND the base itself. after all in my modification the negative is being picked up on the top surface along with the heatsink on top. the pr base is only routing power via the positive contact. the metal base itself is only used to hold the badboy, not for any power routing.

This copper heatsink fits well into the rayovac 2D cell flashlight cooling the badboy500. beamshots etc.. are on another post (Badboy 500 and 30mm optic)

jeez, add a moter and you get a good saw/fan /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks like if you didn't glue/epoxy it properly, it could short the entire circuit. Or that a bump on the heatsink could.. hmm.. I think you get the idea.

the flashlight has a resessed groove cut into the head to center the heat sink and the positive connection link has been coated with 3 layers of "plastidip" (the rubber coating that u dip tools in) there is no movement of either the module or heatsink. a very exacting fit.

patiently awaiting more pictures... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
