BALDER BD-0 1x AAA/10440 new flashlight?

With ~30$ no budget light at all, so i am posting here.

first negative thoughts from the distance:
- heavy light. itp a3 weighs 9g (without keychain, claw, batteries)
- expensive. more expensive than Balder SE-1 XML!!
- no mode memory
- i expect PWM ;)
- no ultralow Lo
- where is the data entry for "10440 battery-R5"??
- runtimes on the low side but acceptable
- why the looks? is it for improved heat sinking?
- clip not reversible (seems like)

some positive thoughts from the distance:
+ support for Protected 10440
+ strong metal clip
+ prominent runtimes
+ emitter choice
+ short length (75mm is short!)
+ good keychain attachment point (see Maratac AAA)
+ "remarkable beautiful design" (well.. )

Anyone with the BD-0? Are any ANSI FL-1 STANDARD data/specs available on the package?

yeah i bet it's a twisty. i do like the design! i hope Balder sticks around as a manufacturer. new blood never hurts, you know?

As I have been looking for AAA/10440 sized lights I have seen this light but no reviews. Lighthound carries it with their name on it.

Anyone have experience?

Here some further specs copy pasted from Lighthound webpages:

Specs:
AAA:

Low - 6 lumens (15 hours)​

High - 126 lumens (39 minutes)

10440:

Low - 15 lumens (33 hours)​

High - 243 lumens (20 minutes)
​

Specs:
AAA:

Low - 4 lumens (15 hours)​

High - 109 lumens (30 minutes)

​

10440:

Low - 11 lumens (33 hours)​

High - 218 lumens (20 minutes)​

On the subject of Protected 10440 the webpage states "Please note that due to slight measurement difference between manufactures the UltraFire 10440 battery is a very tight fit"

The blue UltraFire 10440 (=unprotected) is shorter than Eneloop AAA, so the webpage must be talking of the grey UltraFire 10440 (=protected). Note that the grey TrustFire 10440 (=protected) is shorter than the grey UltraFire 10440.

Its a twisty. LightHound is selling the same light [rebranded]. I haven't tried this light but have gifted several of the LH AA tactical [rebranded Balder SE-1]. Well made, rugged and decent output on NiMHs.

I asked Balder about doing a review, and was informed that they are stopping selling the BD-0. I wonder if it has something to do with the rebranded version from Lighthound, maybe Lighthound bought the rights to sell it?

Lighthound is the exclusive distributor of this model for now.

I learned about this when I had inquired several weeks ago about reviewing the BD-0. Although, they're strict with their MAP policy so pricing wouldn't be all that competitive anyway. However, it prevents the China shops from selling it and you know they would sell it at the minimum set price.

Another CPF member Bwolcot just pointed out that I was talking about my Balder HD-1.

I think I am getting tired as it is nearly midnight here.




I have this Balder flashlight and I do not like the way that I have to muck around with pushing the piston switch down just to switch the darn thing off.

It often takes many attempts to turn it off.

FRUSTRATING is the word I would use to describe the way this thing has to be turned off.

Secondly when holding this light between my two fingers to press the piston type of switch down, the groovy grooves hurt my fingers as the rest of my family and friends comment on.

I wouldn't have thought so as it looks to be a 1xAAA twisty.

Was the lumen rating on high lowered for the Lighthound version of the BD-0 ?

(a) Lighthound's website states a high of 126 lm (XPG R5) or 109 (XPE R3).
This is in contrast to the factory specs of 135 lm (XPG R5)

(b) The other reason that I ask is this customer review on Lighthound's website:

"With AAA I would guess 50 on high, 25 on medium, and 6 on low compaired to other lights I have."
