I'm not a ModMan or a member of the Alien Consortium that I know of.

I'm trying to come up with a configuration of batteries to be applied to a 5W RB. I'm doing this because I'm trying to gain enough knowledge to be fairly comfortable to make a specific request for a ModMan to build the light I want. All members of the AC have the ability to do it.

I keep thinking I want AA so I can run AA NiMHs. I am aware of 6 AA to 2D but that seems to thick. I'm aware of the Black Needle which is what I really want, but cannot afford because my usage would be very high. I'm aware that Electrolumen's builds crazy stuff. I'm aware of dat2zip's ridiculously skilled ability to convey electrons to an emitter. I'm aware of McGizmo's out-of-this world ability to build anything I can imagine. I'm aware of Lambda's ability to build things that refuse to perform in any way other than superbly. I'm aware of Mr. Bulk's ability to think outside and inside of the box and jump all over the simplist, most powerful solution. I'm aware that I have just insulted the rest of the Alien Consortium by not mentioning them and hoping they are doing a Trix commercial and saying, "Silly CPFer, photons are for humans."

Here is my silly solution: What about a double long LGI 2? Six AAs in a linear row.

At first, that may seem unwieldy but it would really not be that big and could be slipped into many places. This would not be an EDC but if a person needed it, they could put it in a coat pocket; take it to their favorite walking trail and, if needed, could use it.

I'm not trying to invision a light that would be so much a commercially successful light. I want an RB that has powerful throw, that I can carry on site.

What do you guys think?

i have been wanting to do a 5w rb for some time now, but future won't have them in until january.

a 5w wouldn't work in something the size of a lgi, there is just too much heat to dissapate.

i am planning to (as soon as i get a 5w rb

) put it in a 5d mag with 6c's. if you send me 2rb's, i'll take my own 5d's and heatsinks and send you a light

Thanks Rothrandir.

I used a double LGI 2 as a visual example. I'm thinking of 6AA linear as a bat configuration. The head is up to the inventors.

I still think the AC can do it...one way or another. They have many forms of unobtainium.

Ever heard of the Nordic Lego Set? (neither have I but as I understand it, I am about to receive a firsthand experience and if successful, there might be a 6AA "batlight" born eventually...).

"Nordic AA Lego Set"

I just made up that name...I don't think you'll find it anywhere...just buy some Nordics and put them together however you want. The bezel, switch assembly, battery housing, and tail cap all separate. The parts can then be assembled however you want. Mr. Bulk is getting my last "set". I think a "Cary Peterson" (?) sells them once in awhile on eBay.

Thanks sunspot.

Really I wanted to see if it was a viable battery configuration so when I finally get the courage to ask the AC to build it I'll be able to discribe it. Next I'll need to figure out what kind of regulation, if any, it needs to drive 6 AA NiMHs.

And yes, it would be nice if it turned out looking a little gizzy.
