I've been out of the game for a while so bear with me please.

I'm simply looking for the best option for AA battery for a game camera. Looking for Rechargeable.

What do you think would be better a traditional 1.2V NiMH at 2500ish MAH or the Li Ion stepped down to 1.5 at 1500ish MAH.

Obviously cold weather, especially now, would be a factor. This particular camera takes 8 batteries.

Depending on the answer any suggested brands/vendors. From what I'm reading the Li Ion are spotty with quality.

Thanks

I would go with high capacity fujiloops (Fujitsu low self discharge NiMH) myself, assuming that the camera works well at the slightly lower Voltage of NiMh's. Tenavolts should work if NiMH's are a no go, but neither is that good if temps are going to be consistently below freezing. For cold temps, L91 ultimate lithium energizers are best, though they are not rechargeable.

Depends how cold. If it's above -20C, I'd go with Eneloop Pros. If it's below -20C, you're probably stuck with non-rechargeable Energizer Ultimate Lithium AAs. Forget about the 1.5v lithium ion kind.

Thanks guys, Yes I'm a big fan of he Energizer L91 for my GPS in cold weather. But this is a couple times s year where it seems worth it to spend the $$. The game camera is starting out a play gift for my son. I didn't feel like spending $$$ on batts for something that will start off in our back yard and easy to get to and swap or recharge the batteries.

I figured if lithium primaries are good in cold the lithium ion rechargeable might be good. I don't know if it will handle the 1.2 volt well. Mixed reviews on weather it works well or not. Temps would get below freezing but usually not ever less that 20F, nothing crazy. And this isn't a life or death thing. if it shuts down oh well.

I'll just give the NIMH a try and see. I guess since I've been out of the game for a few years some miracle battery came along.

Li-Ions rechargeables don't like the cold. Lithium AAs are better than anything else for cold weather. That and their higher power density is why Surefire started using them in their flashlights way back in the day. I'd say the only real change since you last checked is that Li-Ion rechargeables have become more commonplace.
