I got a free EO-9 recently in one of my orders and would like to try it out in my Surefire G2. Here's the link for the LA:

It looks like this set-up should work fine for short bursts as long as I use two 3.7v rechargeable 123A batteries. I'd really appreciate a recommendation on where to get the best batteries of this type with a charger. Any advice?

there aren't any cells available, that I am aware of, that I could recommend for powering an EO-9 in a 2 cell form. The EO-9 is a high current lamp. The cells that fit it, aren't.

HO-9 is about as much oomf as you can safely stuff into a G2.

If you don't mind the higher risk of running the cells way too hard(BOOM), you can get about 10-15 minutes runtime from pair of 3.7V RCR123s. AWs high current protected 3.7V RCR123s will probably light up and EO-9 on a single click. Short bursts, might be ok.

Thanks, mdocod. It seems it would be safer to just use a 3-cell light with this lamp. I didn't know there was a risk of explosion from running Li-Ion batteries hard! The HO-9 doesn't seem all that much less powerful, but what do I know?

It's a matter of the current the LA pulls from the cells. The HO-9 pulls 1.55A, the EO-9 pulls 2.00A. The recommended max for RCR123s is 1.5A.

You could use the EO-9 in a 3-cell light with either 2 x 18500s or with 3 x CR123A primaries - same LA for both. That is one of the reasons the 3-cell body size is so useful.
