im a big fan of normal size (rechargeable) batteries AAA, AA, C and D because i can get them anywhere, and i have been with many people over the last 5 years who either had a camera or flashlight mp3 player, or some electronic item but could not use it because the internal battery was dead?

with normal batteries i just keep a couple freshly charged ones with me and insert them if needed. (or buy at the gas station/grocery store)

are lithium batteries and other types really worth getting involved with?

requires a special charger etc.

pros and cons in a nutshell of various battery types?

Please note that the correct place to post this is in the Batteries sub-forum. I'm moving it there now.

Li-Ion cells are 3.7 volts each, as opposed to a rechargeable NiMH's 1.2 volts. You could put a pair of Li-Ion AAs in your portable radio if you'd like to see the display go really bright for a moment, then completely die with the smell of burning ozone.. :poof:

Right now for everyday consumer products, your choices are NiMH (common rechargeable batteries) and LSD NiMH ("Low Self Discharge", Eneloops and similar). If you use a device constantly and are always exchanging its batteries (work flashlight, favorite radio, etc), go with the standard NiMHs. If you're wanting rechargeable cells for something you don't use very often (emergency flashlight, second camera, etc), use LSD NiMHs.
