I would like to see how these lights beams' compare. In Craigs' review at the LEDMuseum, he says that the TL-2 is brighter because of a tighter beam. Is this true? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Here you go.

tl-2-5.jpg

The TL-2 is on the left, the KL4 is on the right. Both beams are shown on a wall about 5' away.
If anyone else wants to post beam comparison pictures, please feel free to do so.

wow, i like that beam!!!

how much bigger is the streamlight head than the l4 head?

Whoa! That's a beam from the TL2? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
It might warrant a look... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif

Pi_is_blue: The beam develops that evil "doughnut hole" in the center when it's widened. Before the TL-2 goes out, the beam is approximately twice as wide as it is at its narrowest focus. And it has that "doughnut hole" in the center.

Rothrandir: I don't have a calipers, so I can't get an *exact* measurement. But just by eyeballing, I'd say the TL-2's head is 5-6mm larger in diameter than the KL4's head.

My particular TL-2 LED will widen the beam about 100% compared to the most narrow. No doughnut hole. These things (Leds) vary a LOT. Still learning.

Now, my TL-3 WILL give a doughnut hole at it's widest, WITH a big X. Go figure.

When I received my TL-3 LED, a quick comparison with my 3AA SL LED Task Light gave me the impression that the TL-3 was WHITE compared to my slightly greenish 3AA.

Ahhh. Received my replacement TL-2; that is WHITE, the TL-3 has a, hmmm, kinda yellow cast, maybe ???, it varies depending on which color you shoot them against. This stuff will drive you nuts.

Still living with both the TL's, interesting well made lights.

Hmm... maybe I'm wrong but, isn't the TL2 a 1W Bulb while the L4 is a 5W? How the heck is it so much brighter even if it is a tighter beam?

Tight beam equals "candlepower", or "brightness" at a "spot". Lumens is the TOTAL photons put out by the light.

If the L4 had a very tight beam, it would be "brighter" at that spot.

are you comaring the led L4 vs the TL2 reg bulb?

If my info is correct, the TL2 uses a 1 Watt HD Luxeon.

This light may well be another sleeper bargain (only $55. or so), just like Kogatana's discovery 18 months ago of the Brinkmann Legend LX (@ only 20 bucks) vs. the Surefire E2. -The comparison being mainly about performance for the $$. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The SL TL-2 has a Xenon model; and an LED model. Same body, different light sources.

Excuse me, I was thinking of the SL tasklight......the focusable Luxeon model. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

membr123-not to worry, I have all the durned things, I get confused too........I have the 3AA TT, 2 LTT, 1 LTT (two), 3C TT, 3AA LED TaskLight, and the TL-2, and TL-3 LED models

Isn't it wonderful we have so many nice ones available now.

I spent at while last night in the back of an Albertsons warehouse comparing a TL-2 LED and an L4. The TL-2 threw a much tighter spot, and lit up the back corners and the ceiling better than the L4, but the L4 simple put out a wall of light. The TL-2 acts more flashlight-ish, while the L4 makes a very impressice medium range floodlight.

How does the TL-3 compare to the L4? With the TL-2 doing so well against the L4, I would assume that the TL-3 would blow the L4 away.

Well, I don't have a TL-3, so I can't compare a TL-3 and an L4 or KL4. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Craig, hey there.
would you please post a shot of the TL2 at its tightest vs an ARC LSHP and at its widest before the donut hole appears? thanks man.

Your wish is my command...

tl-2-6.jpg

This picture shows the Arc LSH-P on the left, and the Streamlight TL-2 on the right. The TL-2 is adjusted for its tightest focus.

tl-2-7.jpg

Same as above, but the TL-2's beam is widened until just before the doughnut hole in the center becomes visible.

tl-2-8.jpg

Same as the last two, but the TL-2's beam is widened until just before it turns itself off.

All three pictures placed the lights about 5 feet from the wall, one directly on each side of the camera. The Arc LSH-P has a single CR123A cell and the TSP (Tail Switch Pack) that fits that cell.

Hehe...

Some other old-timer that remembers Koga´s recommendations /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wish Koga would show up again & give us some of his extremely useful, non-"I shine my flashlight at a white wall and drool about a perfect circle of light" real-life test´s /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
