I have a 2 d maglite I would like to power with 2 18650 batteries and a SSC P4 led. Do I need a buck driver to accomodate the higher voltage or is there a decent 5 mode driver that will work. I believe Kaidomain or Dx is a good place to look..Any input or luck with certain drivers that work well with this combination.. Thanks for your help in advance..

Question ...... why use a SSC P4 ?

The Cree XPG is a newer emitter which is brighter and more efficient

Back to your question ..... With 2 x 18650 cells, you will need a buck
driver board, try DX SKU 26108. This board will give you the 5 modes your
looking for

A far better alternative would be the bFlex board from Taskled, far more
comprehensive with a ton of user setable options but the Mag switch has to
be modded to monetary action (search for threads by Wquiles on how to
do this)

Agreed Xpg is the better emitter I just like how well the p4 mounts on my homemade heatsinks. It slides inside the hole of the reflector. I am sure that you can take the xpg off it's star board, but I am reluctant to try it.

Are they a different bin number? I am unable to find any..

Also do you have any ideas for a tail spring on a maglite that works well with 18650 batteries? I have a few ideas but I know your on here quite a bit and probably have seen quite a few ideas.. Thanks for all your help..
