I know that Gene sells one but are there other conversion heads for the surefire E2DL to accomodate the malkoff dropins. Opinions of the best units and pictures would be appreciated.

I have the Valiant head on mine that Gene sells. It matches the body EXTREMELY well. That's the M60W MCE in there.

I use that head and a Malkoff M60 MCE on my Surefire L4 body. It works very well for me as my "at work" EDC. I put a lens from a Minimag in front of the light module to give a little added protection. One of those lenses is cheap and easy to replace if scratched.

The above head is probably by far the most streamlined solution, and as far as I know, the only easily attainable head built with e series threads.

You can also stick with Surefire's black hard anodizing by picking up an lu60a like I did -

Does the drop-in have 2 mode like the E2DL or is that in the SF head?

The E2DL has it in the head. But using it on the LX2 makes it 2 mode, since it's done in the tailcap on that light.

Good to know..so a LX2 cap would make a VME head with a malkoff drop-in work in dual mode then?

When I put the VME with Malkoff MCE on my LX2, it did exactly that. I did not use it for any amount of time like that, just tried it to see.

Well I was considering it since I thought all the E series would be threaded the same. So is it a physical compatibility problem or an electrical one?

The threads on the LX2, and E2DL are different

I'll post a pic for you.

As you can see, not only are the threads different, but due to the different diameters of the bodies they simply do not mix.

Pics aren't the best, they were just quick snaps :p

The KX2 is not an E series, and would actually be considered an A series.

Well thanks for all the great info. Seems really silly that they are not thread compatible. A series ehh?

So SF has M, C, E, & A series ? In that order of "size"?

Or would the A series be larger than E but smaller than C..gosh that sounds like one of those english lessons from 5th grade.

Actually, the KX2 is the LED bezel for the E-series, in fact it comes supplied with a body as the E2L Outdoorsman. I don't think the LX2 bezel has a proper name as it isn't meant to be sold on its own.

As much as I remember, the C/M series share tailcap threads but the bezel threads are different, and the M2 is a C-series light... E series is compatible with McGizmo's Aleph system, amongst others, and the A series generally only refers to the tailcap side since the bodies and heads that go together have never been swappable (A2 and L2 bezel are thread compatible but the internals fit wrongly, L1 bezel is E-series physically but not electronically, LX2/A2L bezel is apparently E-series physically and electronically). Someone correct me if I'm wrong here....

In any case, the VME bezel is fantastic and probably your best solution since it is designed to be the smallest way to fit a Malkoff drop-in on an E-series body.

Whoops, I meant LX2. Body diameter similar to A2, though tail threads are not Acme threads. Diameter of tail threaded area is like A2, wider than E series and smaller than C series, and head threads are compatible to E series heads.
