No experience here. Please post your fave drop in mod for minigag AA so I can decide on upgrade for mine. List your reasons and price comparison. Home made mods for sale and commercial mods alike to be considered.

Thanks,

This depends on what your needs are. I would go with the
BB400, BB500 or MadMax if you need a bright light. I have a BB400...I picked it because of its regulated output and lower power consumption (more battery life) than the BB500 or MM, but your requirements may vary.

For longer-lasting light, get an Opalec NewBeam module. I might get one of those, but my EDC will always be my BadBoy.

Hi TSG68,

This topic has been discussed a lot here.

Please use the search function to read all about the different replacements for the AA.

InReTECH 2AA
dat2zip BadBoy 400
dat2zip BadBoy 500
dat2zip MadMax
Opalec Newbeam
Ill Pill from Lambda
and there are several, newer, others.

Don't have time today to re-post all the stuff that I have already said on this topic, but trust me, there is LOTS to read!

What a coincidence. I'm working on a project that'll probably do this, it's based on a circuit at electronics.co.uk/miniproj/download/010130uk.pdf . I'll send you my artwork if you like, I'll get my order for a few of these in a couple weeks so I can test them. It's supposed to fit inside a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe and drive a white LED from a single cell, but with a spacer it'll take the place of one AA and fit inside a Mini-Mag AA. I looked inside a minimag I picked up off the freeway a few years ago, and I see that it won't require any permanent modification. The only problem I see is the aluminum tube may interfere with the inductor, a steel jacket may solve this though.
