Looking for a light that will light up a big area. I've looked at the TM26, LR40R and TK72R which is a little over $300 but would still work.

300 is a pretty big budget and lets you pick from a rather wide array. it would be more helpful if you had some runtime or size requirements. Imalent ms06 looks good for 199 the LR40R also looked good to me.

No way you're lighting up an entire football field with only the 5050R's stated 883 lumens. Reach across it, maybe, but the whole thing? No chance at all.
I was thinking reaching across it would also be lighting it up. But I have one and will now go to a local FB field and see what I it can do.

mniezen and kevin1322 have mk39's for sale which will get you halfway there. the tm26 and tn42 also are good buys in their sales thread

You kinda want 15ish to 60 thousand Lumens I would think. DX-80, X80-GT, MF01s, Maruader2. The question might be how 'long' do you want to light up this football field?

Streamlight Protac HL 5-X will get you pretty close for 1/3 of your budget. It's 3500 lumens on high with about 1hr runtime. Floods like crazy and still shines about 150yds. I love mine, was exactly what I wanted in a light at the time. Now I want something with the same throw and none of the spill.

Spend a little more and get the Acebeam X65.

You will not be disappointed.

The two lower settings on the HL5x are really useful with whatever kind of optic this thing has but in this low lying hazy valley I wander around in at night the high setting just gives me a headache.
