I've built several P7 lights in the last few months and I know others have as well. Some of my builds are great and others are so so.
Do you have one or two favorite P7 host/reflector combinations? If so, which ones and why? What about clunkers or disappointing builds?
Of my builds, I have two favorites:
First is a 1D M@g with Kai's P7 OP reflector, driven by one 26700 emoli and netkidz 7135 modded board. Multiple modes, a broad powerful, focused beam, and compact size all appeal to me.
Second is an Ultrafire C2 HAIII with stock reflector and direct drive (18650). Again, a very compact, even pocketable light, with a broad, well focused, powerful beam. I may add a driver to get multiple modes.
Somewhat disappointing builds include an Aurora WF 600, 18650 direct drive, resistored two stage tailcap, and modified stock smooth reflector. I first mounted a P7 star on the pill but it sat way too high for the reflector, so in went a plain emitter which improved focus, however the reflector still needs to move farther forward by about 2 mm. Beam exhibits some artifacts, throw is less than it's 9V Q5 brother and more narrow/less intense than the Ultrafire and 1D.
Another letdown is the P60 drop in I just finished for my wonderful Huntlight FT01XSE. Again, a smooth reflector, this time focal length is better (emitter, not star) but the beam is neither a wall of light nor a tightly focused thrower, but somewhere in between. I've used one of Kai's direct drive boards with PWM for multiple modes and it performs well in terms of output, however the interface is a bit clumsy and has no memory.
