Hi All

Newbie here so please don't bite

I'd like to ask what the best selling (most sold) flashlights have been in the past 5 years?

I'm also new to LED tech so am thinking it would be a good start to understand exactly how the most popular ones work before getting in deeper and my attempting my own circuit.

Depending on how I get on I like the idea of making my own torch from scratch.

Thanks :)

:welcome: Not got a clue  but excluding cheaper lights like people pick up from stores, i would say maglite..........
But brands like fenix/nitecore/lenser(yes i said lenser as very well marketed)/eagletac/surefire
Now i would guess and thats all it is,in USA it would possibly be surefire in the upper quality end brands.............

A very difficult question to answer and to that you would need the numbers from the manufacturers and tough mate you ain,t getting them as it is none of your business and sales info is sold to specialist companies for mega bucks.

Taking into account the way lights are sold in the world the big hitters are Led Lenser and Maglite as they dominate the lucrative retail stream. What you need to consider is the amount of lights sold as a contracted tool and made specifically for a customer. Our company buy from a Scandinavian light maker as they specialize in the automotive market but in other parts of Europe Led Lenser is a brand we use.

The hobby side of things will be a little tiny splash and of no real consequence in product sold.

Best selling is definitely not the same as best light. Maglite outsells malkoff but trust me you want a malkoff not a Maglite.
I think you should ask who is making the most innovative or highest quality lights, best selling isn't important.

Now that would be a cracker of a Q...........although not best quality, nitecore and fenix seem to be quite innovative at the moment(or seem to have a new light a week out  ) ,highest quality i can only presume it would be USA made and built like a tank(elzetta maybe)............

New to LED tec, without spending lots, check the Convoy brand out, they are cheap, pretty well built, offer lots of tint options(warm to cold 4000k-6500k+)

So its an affordable way to try a tint you may not be sure on.Only a thought............

Do you want throw or flood or both
Prefer a cooler tint or maybe neutral for colour rendition
There is a lot more to it,thats what makes it interesting and addictive, especially if you have various uses............
One of my fav leds right now is the mtg2,neutral and lots of flood output, respectable throw too depending on the light......
Shallow reflector more flood
Deeper/larger diameter more throw

Then you have fuel,li ion offer great performance over nihm for example but req reading up on the safety side and req a different charger than nimh cells being 4.2v/4.35v dependent.

If not already have some good searches on here, check reviews, decide on what suits you.

I wont mention custom or modded lights ...............that would be rude and could cost.........whoops too late:nana:

Have fun anyway,
:)

I think you can learn about how lights work by reading reviews from user Selfbuilt. He explains modes, run times, lumens, user interfaces, and has great charts comparing lights and run times for different battery types.
if you want an all-around multi-purpose light, the Fenix PD35.

Thanks for the replies there's some great advice which I will look into

this was the question I really wanted to ask but figured it might kick off with what must be some widely opposing opinions
