I've mostly focused on smaller lights in my collection (E2e, Arcs, etc...) so I haven't really paid much attention to other form factors. I know the M6 Pelican is about the best size/throw/price combination around right now - assuming size isn't a huge issue what is the best all around light taking into consideration throw and price (under $50). Runtime is somewhat a factor but less than a good bright spot that runs on relatively cheap power.

Edited to add - a simple mod may qualify - I have a few 2d and 3d mags floating around!

Cheapest/easiest mod I know of is the Mag 2C/3x123/KPR112 bulb. Very satisfying for the unskilled (me) to be able to do this one. Several threads on it and various other similar "hotwire" mods if you search for threads on "3x123" or 4x or 5x, etc.

im not an incan guru, but i really like my tec 40's and surge.

the tec 40's take inexpensive PR bulbs, and will run on most any battery. cost is about $15.
a 2 pack of KPR 113 are $1.50. they are less bright, but very reliable. seem to have a pretty decent runtime.
the xenon 113 is more expensive, but brighter with shorter runtime.

the surge is crazy-bright, pumping out over 100 lumens on 8aa bats! it pumps out a wall of light. you cannot use lithiums, however. cost is around $25. not sure of the runtime.

i just got a UK4AA. pretty nice. but it does take a special lamp assembly.

im sure there are a bunch of great choices, but the above are all i have in a small, bright, longer-runtime incan.

HesNot, I know you've got 50 to kill, but consider the more expensive Magcharger with WA 60 bulb. It'll blow away just about anything else you can come up with, and is rechargeable. Around 500 lumens, and there are many threads on it. It still is the current King of Throw in my book for an internally recharging stock light (with new bulb).

Under $50 bucks?
You GOTTA try the Pelican M10 from the Black Knight series. This is my beside the bed answer and it is a blaster! Runs on 4 C cells which meet your answer for cheap power. I think I was in for somewhere around 42 bucks, if I remember correctly. I think Pelican claims 72 lumens with like a 7.7 hour run time. Great choice.

Along those same lines, try the pelican super saber light 3C and the Brightstar Responder 3C, both are super rugged, brite, and inexpensive.

If size isn't an issue (e.g. you want something to put in your car trunk), a $39.95 spotlight with a 100 watt halogen bulb will obliterate anything we normally think of as a flashlight.
