Better way to EDC Fenix's

The holster you get with a fenix light is really bad. There is no method to stop the light from being pulled from your holster, or it leaving while running. Whats a good holster that you can belt mount "safely and securely" a P3D Q5, and P1D Q5. There must be some holster that will fit them comfortably. I dont want to get a maxpedition holster because it will probably be too large. I want a holster for both lights, so i can belt mount which ever one i need at that time. and theres nothing worse than trying to put a P1D CE inside a holster 3 times its size!

I forced my P3DCE into a brand-spankin' new minimag holster and left it for a day or so. The heavy nylon took on a good shape, much like Kydex would, and now the thing doesn't budge unless I yank it out. It's easier to get it back in than it is for Fenix elastic holsters, as well. Only downside is it tends to "ride up" on my belt if I wear it as such, but it usually lives in my Monsoon anyway.

For the P1D I can't helpya, never had one.

Have you had a Fenix come out of a Fenix holster while running? I especially can't see a P3D doing this.

I have not had it leave the holster, because when they are new they are nice and snug, but over time these holsters loose their grip, and the light will jump up and down. Its happened with other holsters. But still that being said, it still can be snagged too easily by someone too close to you, and theres a chance that you may not even know, especially if the holster is a little worn. TO me a holster must have some kind of closure over the top, either a snap, or veltro or something, to make sure it stays put. I have not seen a good small holster that will fit a P1D CE. Because with a good holster for both the P1D and P3D, i will have the ability to do anything i want. I will be buying a Cr123 carrier from the marketplace, so that with a holster for both lights, i can configure my EDC based on what im going to be doing.

There are various sized holsters you could try from DX that might fit. I find that a clip on the light keeps it clipped to the side of a otherwise loose holster.

Also, I have used old Inova X1 and X5 holsters for various lights. Since they are entirely made of elastic, they grip very well and won't let go. But I don't belt carry, I attach a carabiner to the holster and hang it off a belt loop. There is enough slack to slip it into a back pocket if it's bouncing around too much.

Try looking through these:

Yes its just hard to find something which will work well. Most of those holsters are to large, or are the same as the ones you get with the light. I need something which will enclose over the light in a way that it can not fall out, or be simply pulled out of the holster as an open top holster can be.

See why cant fenix make something like this? Is there any way to be sure if it would fit? and how i could get one in england?

@ techwg,

I can recommend to wrap surf tape on your light:

I did it because the fenix surface's feel to smooth for my taste and the rough tape greatly enhances grip also with wet/sweating hands. but as a positive side effect, it will also make the light stick tighter into the holster. you can run the whole day without a chance losing the light.

Older l1p holsters had velcro top. I suggest buying some nylon strapping at a fabric/craft store, and stitch a flap on with some velcro stitched as well.

"Surf Tape"? Interesting.

Anyone know where this is located in the states? Might it have another name?

Thanks................frank

It'll fit for sure, since novatac is larger than P1D. Not sure how do you get one, check your local novatac dealer since the holster is sold as accessory for novatac. Or you can just mail order it from brightguy if the shipping isn't too ridiculous.

While that is still true, it does not detract from the fact the holster you get is cheap, and then you have tape all over your light still. I would not like the idea of having anything "stuck" to the light because i have done that before and its never pleasent when it comes off.

hi frank,

maybe "surfboard tape" is the more correct term. you could also try a search under "anti-slide-tape" (thats how I found it my country: "anti-rutsch-klebeband") or something similar. I'm not sure what it is called in the US, but you will certainly find something like it.

Well, it IS a free holster..:p

you can use almost any kind of alcohol, or zippo fluid to get the sticky stuff off.I even used a bit of cologne once..

I sometimes attach a lanyard to the P1D thats clipped into the holster inself so that even if it does fall out, which it hasnt done so far, it would just hang there. It rides under my t-shirt, so i havnt had a problem with stuff snagging it. I actually like the Easy slip out design fenix holsters have, i find it much of a hassle to un-velcro my T1's holster and get the light out, with the open tops, the lights out in a split second, one barely noticable movement, and you can have the light in your hand

Yes, but rather than stick things to my lights, and have to deal with removing it if i want to, does not really float my boat. I would much rather have a good holster so that i dont have to pull out a frankenstein's monster when i need a light :D Im thinking the maxpedition 4 inch tube holster would fit my P3D, but the P1D still elludes me finding a good holster for it, that i can get in england.
