Enlightened
I couple weeks ago, I posted a review of the 2AA Legend from Brinkmann. In this review I stated that I had problems with the clickie tail cap and the light output was below expectations. A representative of Brinkmann (HairBall) read this post. To make a long story short, I was sent a new tail cap for the light. I did not ask for it, which makes it an even more pleasant surprise.
The new tail cap has performed flawlessly since I installed it. (Although it only has a couple of hundred cycles on it.) It has also improved the light output. I had previously stated that it was less bright than a mini-mag with a nextstar bulb. Now I would say that they are exactly even. (I have a NextStar in the Legend too). The old tail cap measured 0.60 ohms. The new one is 0.00 ohms. The old cap would cause flickering and occasionally the light would go out. This one has had no such problems. The only problem is that the new one is black while the light is green, but this really doesn't matter. It is still the best looking flashlight around. In fact I like this looks better with a black tail cap.
In conclusion, I give a BIG thumbs up to Brinkmann Customer Service. I like to see company reps on the forums. I would like to see a rep from Mag, Streamlight or Princeton Tec here.
The Legend 2AA is equal to the mini-mag in performance. The tail cap is a very desirable feature. I still prefer the Mini-mag since the Legend will not fit in my Accumold sheath (too long, too thick). It is great for a jacket pocket.
