Board and runtime questions

Hey guys,

I searched the forum and couldn't find the answers I was looking for. Can somebody please explain the difference between the 1.4 and 2.8 options for the SST-50 EDC? Also, what does the runtime look like with a fully charged (4.2) AW IMR?

I'm getting ready to order my first light from Mac. I'd love this light in black Cerakote. Has Mac ever done a run of Cerakoted lights?

With the SST-50 EDC Mac offered two driver versions, one that draws a maximum of 1.4 amps, the other 2.8 amps. Accordingly the 2.8 amp version is much brighter but has a correspondingly shorter runtime. I've never done a runtime test with my 2.8 amp light but I would estimate it to be no more than 15 minutes, perhaps as little as 10 minutes in high mode. Mac offerred the Tri-EDC with cerakote but I believe he has discontinued that. I don't believe the SST-50 was ever offered with cerakote.

All of my lights from now on will be machined to accept the 18350 cells which is around double the capcity of the AW R123 cell. The EDC lights where desigined to have a super bright high that was meant to be used intermittently as an EDC with only 15 minutes of runtime is not really an EDC.

I have discountinued the cerakoting for lights as people had very high expectations and thought it was an invinceable coating. It is a very tough coating but it will scratch. I will cerakote light upon special request.
