I think it has a better beam than the spyder though from the pics I have seen.
{I am talking from complete ingnorance as I have never seen a spyder in person but I'll let you know in a bout a week :-) when I get my spyder}
I do have a Legend LX and it indeed is a kick butt light.

The Legend LX is a pretty good deal, especially considering you get a set of batteries with it. It makes a good glove box light.

Just remember that the new models do NOT have an adjustable focus -- unlike the older ones...

my Legend LX had a Surefire-esque beam on it.

but it was great when you were @ camp 'cause the dock was about 100 feet away and downhill from the deck outback where everyone sits.
when someone from another camp came to visit you could use the light to see who it was and light their way up the hill if they didn't have their own light /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Last fall, I heard some talking late one night at the end of my 800 foot driveway. Nothing loud or vulgar, just some talking. The reason this is odd, is there isn't anything down there except a short (30 foot tall) county water tower and a tractor my neighbor was selling. I try to keep an eye/ear out for anything odd going on down there when he sells things. Although he did pass away recently.
Anyhow, grab my 44mag (just in case) and my Brinkmann Legend LX and have my wife stand on the porch. If anything bad happens, she will be able to hear me yell at her to call 911. Quietly I walk down the driveway, listening. I still here some talking, nothing big.
When I get down there, a couple of guys (maybe 15-17 years old) are sitting down there yacking. I aim my light at them (50 feet away) and politely ask what they are doing. They obviously did not hear me coming. Man did they get spooked. Anyway, they were shielding their eyes because that LX is so bright. They explained that they had each had a fight with their girlfriends and were just stopping to rest a bit before continuing the walk home. But man did that LX do it's job, great value at $15-$20.
Some day I'll tell you the story of when I came home and a guy was on top of his grifriend on the hood of their car in my driveway.
But I do really like the Brinkmann Legend LX (thanks to ksbman for giving it to me).

Yes, the "classic" model LX was my first "good" light also.
It’s a great light to start an adult "flashaolic" with. I gave one to a friend for Christmas, and a few weeks later he is asking about batteries for it and what lights to buy.

I think that the loss of focus was a reliability issue. I am just guessing here, though.
I had an origianl Legend LX. One three-foot tumble onto pavement turned out the light for good. The ceramic area where the bulb plugs into cracked. Maybe this new change makes it harder to break.

Probably worried about a M*g lawsuit? Hmmm, funny enough I haven't seen any Brinkmans up here in Canada, haha, I'll probably start noticing them now that I'll look for a source.

Canadian Tire has just started carrying the Brinkman Rebel line of LED flashlights. Hopefully they will expand the product selection...

Actually, it's more likely that the focus feature was removed at the "request" of another company that likes to sue anyone else making focusable flashlights (at least good ones).
And I've dropped my LX many times onto pavement, concrete, tile, etc. It's even tumbled down a flight of wooden stairs and survived an 8 foot drop on to concrete.
And how did it hold up to this abuse? I've had the bulb dislodge a few times, and decenter frequently, but it still works fine after re-installing/centering the lamp. Got some dings on the lip of the bezel and the tail switch, but nothing that affects the function.
Been using my Pelican M6 recently because I ran out of spare lamps for the LX and Brinkman was out of stock when I called a while ago (supposed to get more in, but I haven't called back yet). Now I'm trying to decide if I want to order more lamps, or just convert the LX to LED...

I spoke with VP of Marketing & PR at Brinkmann a week ago ( 2/24/04) , regarding the non-focusing issue. Well they did indeed get a lawsuit threat, not just from the company that patented the focusing head, but also another famous company with 'fire' in thier name- for developing a "below market" priced tactical light - defined as capable of an intense focused beam AND possessing a clickie tail switch.So how did Brikmann cope? they inserted 2 pins ( you can see them) into the head to lock it on the body tube !!! That way at least it can't focus and NO it's not set to the tightest beam. I can't figure out how to get the pins out. Too bad!

Well, that's interesting. Many here have written off all things Mag because they don't like the way the company throws its weight around with lawsuits. Will those same convictions hold now that the beloved Surefire is doing it too? The plot thickens... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif
