While in Wal-Mart I saw a Brinkman LX, but it's got an all rubber body. Has anyone got one of these units and what are they like? I like the rubber body as my SF 6P is like a greased pig when wet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I think you saw a Maxfire. There is much discussion going on about these currently. Both the 2x123 version and the rechargeable.

Yup, sounds like the Maxfire. Grabbed one of the 2x123 when I was last at Wal-Mart. Nice light for $20. Slightly longer than a SF G2, has a clickie, supposedly the P60/61 LAs fit without modding (I say supposedly, as I have not tried it myself yet. Others have, and I trust them). To me, the beam looks nicer than my SL Scorpion, with very similar brightness/hotspot diameter as the focused Scorpion beam. You cannot change the focus on the Maxfire, though (not that I want to, I use the Scorpion on this setting pretty exclusively). The body is made out of a hard plastic, and contains a metal tube for conductivity. Looks and feels very solid. Right now, out of the lights my local Wal-Mart offers, this would be one of the top choices.

did it look like the one on the right?

The first thing i did when i got mine was take the rubber handle off... i hated it. It is now MUCH slimmer and easier to get into and out of my pocket. The Rubber gripping caught and got hung up on my pocket as i pulled it out.

Of course, add the cost of the light to the cost of the P60....and you've got a G2.

Brinkmann Maxfire VS Dorcy Spyder ....?

I'm really curious to know how the Brinkmann Maxfire compares with the Dorcy Spyder. It seems like everytime I'm at lowes I take a second, pick up a Spyder only to say to myself "Nah, I bet it's no brighter than the Maxfire and in terms of quality it looks like it was made in china". Yet the package says 119.5 lumens on it and I thought the Maxfire was about the same as a G2 at 65 lumens. Do any of you have both of these and have an opinion on maxfire vs spyder?

Somewhat of a false analogy. $34 G2, replacement P60 (uh, you are going to burn out the bulb from use aren't you?) = $49, or replacment cost with p61 = $59.

Brinkman with replacement p60 = $35, p61 = $45. But $45 is still a lot of money for a cheap flashlight that you wouldn't feel bad about losing. So, Brinkmann sells replacment modules for $4.99 including shipping. On my to do list for next year, modding the Brinkmann module with higher output $6 bi-pin /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif $31 Brinkmann spanks G2 in runtime with same output as P61... 2 lights for the price of one HO G2, maybe it is possible?

My appologies to all, never shop in a hurry. This is indeed the Maxfire-LX. In fact I bought one last night, this thing is a jewel! It come prett close in output to my 6P +-15 lumens. I can really get a crip on that rubber housing as this is difficult with my 6P. Now, if I can just find some spare bulbs for it.

I've emailed Brinkmann conerning spare bulbs, but no repsponce. Is there a sub?

You can order spare bulbs by phone from Brinkmann @ 1-800-468-5252. Make sure to tell them it is for the Maxfire LX.This info is printed on the back of the package.

Huh? Not talking replacement. What I said was that if you buy the Brinkman, buy the P60, and put it in, you've spent as much as you would on a G2 with P60....and I'll take the Surefire every time. Sure, you're stuck with the Surefire replacement cost...but you're choosing to use their assembly.
