I have an old brinkman 5D (comes apart to also be used as a 3D...oer is it 2D..I forget....or maybe all the 5D brinkmanns are like that...what do I know). Anyhow, the "what is your EDC" thread got me thinking about how I carry this old dog under the truck seat just because it is an old friend and because it always seemed like a good last ditch defensive weapon. Since I can't seem to give it up...is there an easy way to hot rod the output such as a drop-in LED sandwich or something else??

I doubt that you'll find anythng "ready-made" to drop into that light, but it's big enough that you shouldn't have any problem dropping in an LS/o on a aluminum "heatsink disk" (that you'll have to make yourself).

Thanks, i didn't realy think there was enough market to prompt anyone to sell a drop-in but i was hoping maybe it was the same size as a d-cell MAG or something that someonr maybe did offer drop-ins. I'll pass on trying it myself.... i am a hack at finesse work.
My Brinkmann 5-3-2 can hold a Carley 2" reflector. I'm considering soldering leads with bipin connectors like the SL-20X or SL-35X to the unique 5-3-2 PR terminal connectors.
I won't do any of the above unless I can find a glass lens for the Brinkmann. (The Mag lenses are a little too wide.)
I'd consider using rechargeables and a suitable high amperage Carley bulb just as with a mag.
My 5-3-2 is currently in 2D mode loaded with 6AA NiMH's driving a 250 L Carley 6.0 V 1.7 A CL 851 T-2 1/2 bulb potted into a PR base. I'm driving the same bulb in a Mag 2D with the same batteries and in a Mag 3D with 5 @ 2500 mAh 1/2 D fighting robot cells.
Of course, you could run the same bulb with 5 rechargeable D cells if you prefer for a longer run time.
