Brinkmann Black Max to Portable?

I did a quick search on CPF but found surprisingly little info on this idea.

I have a Brinkmann Black Max sitting around used very little because it's a 12v plug-in cigarette lighter model.
It would nice if this light could be modded to be totally portable, and what I have in mind is cutting off the handle and fabricating a permanent casing that would hold a sealed lead acid battery.

Anyone ever looked at doing something like this?

I have one of these too.. It would be interesting to see if there are any mods for this, increasing the power, or making it portable.
