has anybody tried this with a dat2zip module?

is the tail threading the same?

i was wondering if this would be a viable alternative to the minimag...

The tail threads accept a clickie from a Legend, but not a Mag. The body has no lip to hold a "sandwich", I bent the metal inwards to make a ground contact and epoxied the sandwich (homemade ZLT w/Q3) into the tube. Works good, I hate the rubber on a Legend, this one slides into a back pocket a lot easier. I also epoxied the head so it cant be turned. It's one of my favorite lights - even though the Legend clickie is a bit troublesome.
Here's what it looks like:

ahh, i see. that sucks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

i don't see why this should be in the mods forum, but oh well /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

i guess i'll have to stick with the mag /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

nice mod btw! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (more pictures? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Roth,
Just get the Brinkmann legend, any reason not to?
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif I can understand why you are avoiding Mags, here are a few of my buddies to talk with the Mag lawyers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twak.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smoker5.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon8.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banned2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Oh, come on now. You can turn a piece to snugly fit into the tube that has a lip to hold a "sandwich". I hear you're getting pretty good on that lathe! The BlackMax really does make a better mod than a Legend or MM.

thanks robk /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

i probably could...but when i'm making 15 of them, that becomes extremely problematic.
also, i've got a 5/8-28 tap for the mag tailcap threading...i would never even consider for a second making more than 2 if i had to lathe-thread it. its such a pita.

also, i can't find the brinkmann legend locally /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
i only asked about the blackmax because it looked so similar that it might have the same characteristics.

No, the Black Max is totally different. But, it's worth looking into as it is a bit sleeker and better looking than the Legend. The bad thing is you need a Legend tail switch, unless you can devise some kind of "head twist switching". You're right, in quantity it's not practical, but for a one of a kind, it's nice.
BTW- you can get Legends at www.rei.com for $10

Rob

that is a good deal...but still more than the mm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif espeically when shipping is covered.

maybe i should commision a small cnc job of mag clones...i bet mag would love that! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (should i engrave "this is not a maglite" around the head? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

HaHA Mag would love that! If you have a few made for yourself, you should copy the dimensions of the BlackMax head - at least O.D., as it's a lot nicer looking.
Rob

yea...but then mag won't be as angry with me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

and what's this on your avatar? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a 3AA Blackmax that is about as dissapointing as a M*g 2AA...

What can I do to it easy? The head doesn't screw off...

It probably has left-hand threads like a Brinkmann "Pro-Max" that I have..

It stops going both ways, but does seem backwards to the way a M*g works.

I guess I could put one of those green LEDs I got at Frys in it, drill the reflector out a bit and leave it working the same way it does...

Try removing the bezel ring and reflector first.. I seem to recall that I may have had to remove a metal clip that retains the head before it would screw all the way off.
