I just picked up a Brinkmann Legend AA today with a rebate I had. I like this light a lot, especially the on/off switch. It needs a mod. I am on a very tight budget, so I want to keep it to minimum cost. What types of mods do you suggest? It is begging me to make it an led flashlight. I do have a couple of 1w luxeon emitters and optics laying around. Any suggestions for incorporating these, or should I just pick up a 3mm led and change with the bulb? Thanks.

is it a 2aa or 3aa?

if it is a 3aa, direct drive is great!

if it is a 2aa, you will need to implement a converter...

I forgot to mention that it is 2AA. They didn't have any 3 or I would have bought that and run it direct drive. Any cheap easy ways to implement a converter?

well, you could make a pill for it...

the micropucks are pretty cheap...but dat2zips boards are brighter and fit better.

in fact, a dat2zip sandwhich should fit quite nicely into the light! that would be the easiest way, but it isn't as fun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it would be a blast to build my own, but I don't know what to get or where to get it.

do you have a lathe? it is fairly easy to build a pill...i built one here: here

i don't know if it could fit a dat2zip board or a micropuck, but i think it could hold...

Has anyone tried stuffing a micropuck into the body of this light? If it will fit, this is the option I will use.

The cheapest and easiest way to get a super-bright Luxeon mod would be to direct-drive a red/orange LS using lithium AA's. Keep in mind that r/o LS's must have their die slugs mounted to an electrically neutral surface. I use aluminum with a heavy annodise coating for mine.

Red/orange Luxeons are incredibly bright when driven like this and you won't be dissapointed. My customers like this mod so much that it's one that I build buy case quantity. The name of this mod is "Holy Sh*t!" - taken from the most common first words spoken by people who see it.
