OK. You can get them on electric shavers and even my Britta water filter has one. Why can't my flashlight tell me how much longer the battery will last??

Several Sears Craftsman flashlights now have battery meters.

A meter would be especially helpful on regulated lights, since they can suddenly go into moon mode with little warning.

A small two-color (red/green) LED and an IC to control it so it showed green/yellow/red to show battery state ould be excellent. Keep the intensity of the "battery level" indicator fairly dim and it's inherant power use low and it would be a useful part of the light.

I used to have an old Tekna that had something similar ...
