After all my research I was looking at the TK35. Then I found here that it will shut down from turbo after 25min. Whats the point of getting an 860 lumen light if it wont operate at it?

I did find one for 90 shipped. But I still don't know. I'm really tired of my light cutting out on me and I don't want to buy something else that will do the same thing.

I work for an airport on 3rd shift and need something kind of throwy/flood but isn't there anything ideal, best of both worlds? My off brand thing is fine when its working. Where I don't have to feel like im carrying a three foot stick with a reflector. That might fit on a belt or in a cargo pocket?

when you have to twist the head on these lights are you unscrewing it from the body itself or does it rotate independently from the base threads?

you're unscrewing it. but don't worry - the head won't fall off. it is quite a lot of thread.

the g25c2 would be good. only one 18650. if it is bright enough, it's only about 640 lumens. when i say "only", i mean compared to 900. i think it has a step down unfortunatley, around 5min?, and it costs about $110.

can't really think of any others in the same shape as the tk35. if you wanted to expand to a 2x18650 longer light there are some around i think. olight m31 (or m30) triton has a big head for good throw. those things are bulletproof. 800 or so lumens and it is really only about 6cm longer than a single 18650 flashlight.

Really? 25 minutes of continuous turbo mode usage isn't good enough? When are you going to use the equivalent brightness of a 60 watt lightbulb for longer than 25 minutes?

If you really need more than that, buy one of the new "soup can" lights like the Jetbeam RRT-3 or the Nitecore Tiny Monster.

Let's say that you have an engine that redlines out at 16,000 RPM. Would you want to be running it at 16,000 RPM, non-stop? Of course not.

High-powered flashlights generate a lot of excess heat, all of which has to be dissipated. As they are used, heat builds up from the emitter, circuitry and batteries. Heat generated from low, medium and high output modes can be tolerated by flashlights, but their heatsinking capabilities are strained to the limit at maximum outputs. That's why they either cut power or ramp down to a lower level, so that the heat can be cooled off.

If the heat isn't dumped properly, the emitter and circuits will have their lifespans shortened. Also, excess heat building up in batteries is NOT something that you want, as they will eventually vent compressed hydrogen gas in a very explosive manner.

The turbo mode is there for emergencies. Stick to medium and high modes for general uses, and use the turbo mode if you encounter a situation where the full power is warranted.

I get that I won't use turbo a whole lot. But when I do id like it to be able to do what it advertises. I know its going to be like creating daylight! I'm looking forward to it :) and I did see the tiny monster and id like to buy it but its twice my budget. I also saw that tr51 something that looks similar by rifos I think but its not available here.

My eyes get used to the dark but when I still can't see and need light because of background lights mine is just coming short. Its made by lumaforce and its 230 lumens. But the thing literally turns off. Not runs out of battery but shuts down. Now that's irritatating. :green:

My G25C2 shipped this morning (I haven't got it in my hands yet)...but the way I understand it, turning-off the 'the energy saving feature' disables the 'step-down'...

I'm a flexible guy. And I'm still looking. I may get the tk35 cause it just seems like 90 is a good price for it.

Anyone ever hear of the thrunite catapult? That doesn't have to be 3 feet long I can take out an extension.

I dunno, I've just never been partial to lights that rotate. I never really liked the way maglites were either. I would adjust it after new batteries and then always use the button.

You could buy a Eagletac M3C4 single XM-L. It throws better than the TK35 and won't step down in power.

ok, great! i'm sure you'll love it.

I agree. Twisty lights aren't my favourite. The Klarus XT11 has the greatest UI in my opinion, but it won't throw as far as the G25C2. It is still a very VERY favoured light from what I have read - best for law enforcement. Be careful about the throwers, if you get too throwy like the catapult, you'll have great view 50-100+ metres away but you'll be looking at a dot if you want to use it at 10m (which is what I would use more - close to mid-close range). TK35 sounds great. Looking at getting one too!

OOOh, I didn't know they made a single! :grin2: I'll have to look at some reviews for it. That Klarus XT11 looks promising. Is 600 lumen around the same as 800? stupid question huh. Got more research to do. Thanks guys n gals.

Keeping all my options open here. Is the 4sevens S12 malestrom throwy or more of a flood? Thats the thing I'd like to try to keep it around 800 lumens for 90 thats about average throw and flood.

My mistake seems it has a proprietary battery. That doesn't sound cheap to replace at all. :shakehead

If you REALLY want 800 lumens for less than $100, really the TK35 is the only way to go. You could pay more and get a longer light with 800 lumens, or pay the same and get a 1x18650 with really about 500-650 lumens max. or wait 3 years till they can get more lumens out of one 18650...

Marketing.

If a flashlight maker wants to put a non-sustainable mode, in terms of heat dissipation, then it should have a momentary button. If you can no longer hold the contact closed, then it shuts off.

Or Fenix could make a quality product with active thermal regulation, but that cuts into the profit margin.

I'm a huge eagletac fan, but if you after 800 lume, decent size, and on a budget, how about the jetbeam bc40?
