Well, being an engineer and sometimes 'cheap' and with some time on my hands and some spare PCB area on some 4 layer boards that I was running for someone I thought about sneaking on some Burgers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Batch of burgers:

And a complete burger /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

and in a brinkman

Ok - so I'm cheap - I wanted a lot of drivers for modifying my own torches and buying sandwiches seemed too easy & a burger is just soooo american /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ummm, I could use a "real" burger once in a while.

Remember to epoxy fill the bugger or it will collapse with heat.

Good job.

What are the holes for. Air conditioning?

I've got epoxy mold fixtures if you need some to make the module epoxy filling process.

The holes are just truholes - since it was a 4 layer board I figured I'd get my lay out friend to tie all the layers together for some extra heat transfer rather than just a single layer. Also seemed a nice way to let more of the thermal epoxy goop things up.

So, you're saying the thing will get hot enough to cause the solder on the posts to soften and cause the burger to collapse?

I have to admit I initially wanted just the driver boards for some 2 AA type lanterns & torches, but then figured what the heck I'd get a few emitter boards run as well. So the burger/pill/sandwich is not the original intent.

What do you recommend for the filler material - seems expensive to use artic epoxy in there. I assume even just 5 minute epoxy would be fine - since I don't really want a thermal path to the driver board I assume.

thanks for the hints - that I'm sure you've learnt through a very painful process...

george.

Yes, any epoxy will do. 2 Ton of the Devcon line is fine. The trick is I used a disposable syringe and fill that first and then squirt the epoxy in to fill the burger/sandwich.

Yes, the solder will soften with heat and the module will collapse.

You are more than welcome to the mold fixtures if you want to do a run.

From the picture, it looks like your connectors are spaced farther apart and thus will only work in the Brinkmann 2AA and not the standard minimag without boring the hole larger. Just some FYI for you.

I don't know... That's a slippery path you have gone down. Seems you can never have enough... Gotta make a dozen or so. Cyans are awesome. Green, Royal blue... Ooops. More options... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck. The emitter board can be used with the 5W too if you can figure out how to heat sink it. Your boards will find many homes in your projects.

I see you live nearby? Can I buy you a real burger? Was wondering if I could pick your ear on the Atmel.

Wayne - sent you a PM with contact info.

I have a lathe - I can modify a minimag if necessary ;-)

Thanks for the epoxy hint. I'll retrofit that to the prototype burger.

cheers,
george.

I think I missed something...

Who are these for? Who's circuit is it? You made these? Are they going to be for sale? DIY kits? Where'd you get the reel of LS's?

Explain yourself mister... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The spanish inquistion eh? - these are for me/my friends - they are LT1618 based up converters - essentially like a badboy. I had the opportunity to make a bunch of boards essentially for free - piggybacked onto the edge of large boards I did for a customer (spare space...). We ran a bunch of the customer boards and so I got a bigger bunch of burgers ;-) Since there were 8 drivers and 3 emitter boards on each customer board.

I don't want to get into competition with datzip so no, they wont be for sale etc - he worked hard to get his sandwiches perfected - I just wanted some drivers for my own consumption and was too cheap to buy his
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hmm LS's - yes I have a lot.... thanks to KK/Wayne's great deal... 480 q2h LS HDs....

cheers,
george.

Thanks George! Curious minds wanted to know. Must be nice to be able to do that. Good work!
