Hello, i have a green laser pointer 60mW and the button is dead. I don't want to return it, cause it will take around "2 years" to get it back /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif .. anyway, i know how to uninstall it, i even looked at it, it's pretty small.. So where can I get one ?

Can you post a pic of this switch? Somebody might be able to help you. These button switches are used in everything, but finding the one you need might take a little effort.
I have used them out of old VCR's and clocks to fix different things. You might try some of the online parts stores or scavenging a red laser pointer for parts.

That button looks much like the ones used in computer mouses.

I'm guessing the button in that green laser pointer needs to be able to handle at least 500mA, which the buttons in computer mouses probably can't do. At least not for long.

A button I removed from an old mouse is rated for 1A(probably more for the reliablity than current(mouse buttons get clicked alot))!

That is known as a "Tactile Switch" or "TAC Switch" for short and they come in a variety of sizes and pole configurations. You might want to try one of the online electronics supply houses to source one if you don't have a fairly complete electronics supply store in your area. Another option is to check and see if the manufacturer of the laser has a service operation. I hope this helps.

I've heard that the buttons in most laser pointers are only rated for 50mA; the green laser pointer uses 9 or 10 times as much current, maybe even a bit more. Buttons that poop out in laser pointers (especially green and blue ones) probably croaked from overcurrent.
As for mouse buttons being rated for 1A, that's news to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif They probably only need to pass a few milliamps, so it probably is a longevity issue.

Well, couldn't they use a tiny MOSFET to switch the big current, so the button will only have to handle 1mA at most?
MOSFETs are cheap, esp. since green laser pointers are $200 or more!
