Cable glands / strain relief... boot or no boot?

A buddy and I have slowly been collecting materials to make canister lights out of mag parts. After digging around the posts and pictures (and there are a LOT of them), I've been trying to figure out the best route for cable glands. It seems everyone's big on Agro glands which have the built in strain relief / cable boot on the gland but are somewhat pricey and hard to get (unless you order them from TLS / Hector).

Other metal glands don't seem to have the built in strain boot. Also, there are a number of nylon glands with built in strain relief / boot as well. Has anyone had problems with the nylon in general or metal glands without the boot?

I guess you could argue spending a few bucks more on the Agro gland is cheap compared to the amount you're sinking into the light in general but it's nice to know your options. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Spending a few extra bucks is cheap compared to the amount of money you are sinking into the light....

Spend the extra money. Well worth it. I have heard of a few having issues with the plastic ones. Also, the non-strain relief ones can cause the cable to break!

Agro are the way to go.

But I have used others before and the only issue I have had is the wire breaks inside the cable due to lack of stain relief. I fixed that by using heat shrink over the gland and a few cm's of the cable.

Agro is inside made different then plastic glands. Some other metall and some plastic have inside plastic insert with washer which is on outer side not watertight (even it have IP69 ).

At Agro you put gland with top part strain relief on cable , than plastic or metal ring and then robber ring . By screwing upper and lower part to each other rubber catch cable 100% and hold it very strong.
