I'm using two 18650 cells to power a MN16 bulb and it works great.

M6 head, MN16 bulb, Leef 2x18650 M head/ C tail body and RPM clicky

With the FM bi-pin adapter you might consider a WA1111, slightly brighter than the MN16 on a pair of 18650s (but not much). Not all brands of protected cells will light it up though. As a nice alternative the GE787 is a nice all around bulb for the 2x li-ion configuration but often over-looked. Will give around an hour of runtime on the 18650s and is a nice half-way between the MN15 and MN16 with decent bulb life at this drive level.
