As you can see I am a newbie here? However have been a flashaholic since last July when I purchased a X5. So if this question is simple or crazy please be patient with me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

My E1 lamp just went kaplooee and instead of throwing out that $12.00 item I got to thinking I may be able to pop the bulb, drill out the rest of the junk and put a LED in the there. Unfortunately that is the limit to plan and am asking for some input on my first attempt at light modification. I know this will not be a super bright like the KL1 but it should be cheaper. Any help will be appreciated.

I'll take the blown lamp if you decide against messing with it. I have another purpose for it. PM me if you are interested.

On 3V a Nichia could be substituted. Would also work with a 1W Luxeon but it'd be pretty dim too, although probably still brighter than the Nichia.

Ditto on what Mr Bulk said. Unless you could get a low Vf luxeon, you better be off using the leds that require low Vf like red leds.

Minjin,

I will let you know if I decide against tampering with myself.

Thanks for info. Could it be as easy as drilling out the old bulb, dropping the LED in and putting the neg and pos to the right( forgive the lack of technical term here) inner or outer circle. Then using epoxy or such to make the led stay in place. Where would be the best place to buy 1 or a hand full of led's to play with for now.
