Can I charge Eneloops with Uniross charger?

Hi guys, word has it that there is no better place to answer this question :)

Just wondering if I can use my Uniross "Compact Fast Charger" to charge some Eneloops that I have just ordered to power my Canon 430EX II Camera Flash?

Its sometimes called the Uniross Easy Charger... either way its this one:

Any ideas?
 
Yes, should be fine. Eneloops can be charges on pretty much any NiMH charger though I'd not want to do it on one of the 15 or 30 min ones.

Welcome to CPF.

That charger will charge your cells, but it won't treat them nicely.

It appears that your charger charges cells in pairs. This can lead to an imbalance and can result in poor performance from your cells.

You can most likely get away with it for awhile, but it would be better to start saving up for a charger that is capable of charging individual cells at 1000 mA for a 0.5C charging rate for the Eneloop cells. Hopefully you won't damage your cells before you save up enough to purchase an independent channel charger.

Does this charger charge the cells until some specific voltage is reached or it just has a timer? At my home there are very short power outages and I had to throw away all timer-based chargers, because they were destroying the cells. The charger tried to charge the cells for say 10hrs and when the power was out for a second in 9th hour, it reset the charger starting another 10 hours long recharging cycle. I was considering pluging the charger to an UPS but finally gave up and switched to Li-ONs and PILA IBC...

Of course I don't want to damage my cells, so I have bought a Duracell CEF23 charger which from what I gather is hard to beat for the money? (Cost me £10 ($14) from Amazon)...

I know there are a lot better chargers out there, but I think this will look after my batteries fairly well yeah?

btw: although its not what I'm here for, I got quite into reading about these C2 Centurions and the like, some lovely looking stuff you guys are into :)

If it was an delta voltage cut off i would partially agree, but this look like an constant voltage thing so there would be no issue at all ore danger in charging in parallel.
even if they are partially discharged an dv charger in parallel is fine.

thought lixx is safe to charge an fully discharged and an full cell simultaneous in parallel

Good choice. Yes, I don't know of anything better for under $50

Charging NiMh cells in parallel doesn't usually work, and is not recommended. Are you confusing Li-Ion chemistry with NiMh chemistry?

The NiMh chargers that charge pairs of cells charge them in series, most of the time. I think there may be one or two that charge in parallel, but that is the exception.
